Enjoy your retirement handsome boy.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 2, 2021 at 23:17 #1516214Speredek retired.
A fantastic horse in his prime who has been in poor form recently and tumbling down the weights.
Well done on this decision and a happy retirement.
January 3, 2021 at 09:09 #1516225What a sight he was in his early days esp at sandown
January 3, 2021 at 11:04 #1516231Shame about Speredek, thought he was quite strangely campaigned at times.
Nice work to get placed in a G1 and some G2s but they bafflingly seemed to think he was a three miler for an awful long time, tried blinkers in 2019 (who on earth could watch Speredek and think he wasn’t putting it all in?) and seemed rather directionless and muddled with all the different tests he faced during his decline over the last 18 months.
Connections are very lucky to still have a horse to enjoy in retirement. I can’t help but wonder how much more he might have achieved in slightly more expert hands.
January 4, 2021 at 09:50 #1516335Has anyone looked at the BHA non-racing agreements list?
This is a great list. Kudos to the BHA for making it public and keeping it updated. It’s a list of horses who have been retired from racing who will not be allowed to compete again, hopefully meaning they are all going to good homes.
Recent familiar names include:
Get On The Yager, George Of Hearts, Noble Gift, Remiluc, Horst, Tommy The Rascal, Just Cameron, Mixboy, Don Poli, Morney Wing, Lookslikerainted, Arcanada, Woodside Wonder, Azzecagarbugli, Rake’s Progress, Piton Pete, Robero, The Jugopolist, Poker School, Meep Meep, Tor, Golden Jeffrey, Wild Edric, Simply Ned, Banksea, Fun Mac, Drop Kick Murphi, Itsafreebee, Chaplin Bay, Dark Devil, Ice Lord, Double Up and Magical Memory.
And that’s just since the start of November! Well worth a look if you’re worried about a horse you haven’t seen for a while or just want a nice happy glow remembering some of the names.
January 4, 2021 at 10:51 #1516337Thanks for that Holla, I’ll definitely use that link.
January 6, 2021 at 16:18 #1516624Might Bite, finally retired after all kind of experiments. Just wondering why they left out Pardubice.
Happy and long retirement to you!
January 6, 2021 at 17:35 #1516636Thank God for that , only surprise is it took so long
January 6, 2021 at 18:13 #1516639Agree from what I saw – and particularly now his age – it is about time they retired Might Bite.
However, it’s difficult for me to criticise without knowing the horse’s full physical and – just as important – mental history. Possible he was for a long time showing quite a bit at home but he’s always shown temperament and that may have got worse in recent seasons. Other wind related problems can sometimes be suddenly rectified. Presumably connections thought they might (and it is “might”) solve whatever ailed Might Bite… As this particular yard did with Sprinter Sacre who came back to win at the top level. Must be a wrench, retiring a stable star who came so close to winning the blue riband. Especially when the rejuvination of another stable star is still fresh in the mind.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 6, 2021 at 21:20 #1516668Such a relief to hear Might Bite has been retired.
I think it is a pity that he is going to be best remembered for nearly throwing away the RSA. Instead, he should be remembered for what he did for about 95% of that race. He put up one of the best displays of powerful galloping and jumping I have ever seen. Ruby Walsh rode Bellshill and said he was content to sit at the back because he reckoned Might Bite could not keep up the gallop. He actually went further away.
Might Bite was also putting up a superb performance in the Kauto Star before Jacob decided to put him on the floor. That robbed us of what would have been a stunning victory.
I believe Might Bite would have won the King George and the Gold Cup as a novice if he had been allowed to run. I do not believe the likes of Thistlecrack (himself a novice), or Sizing John, Minella Rocco and Djakadam could have finished in front of him in the form he was in that season.
To my mind, he was never as good after his novice season – even when he won the King George.
He might only have shone brightly for a short time but he was a superb chaser at his best. I hope he has a long and happy retirement.
January 6, 2021 at 21:24 #1516669Completely agree, Cork. The form he was in during 2016-17 was absolutely top class and he would have won both the open championship races, especially as the ground in the Gold Cup would have been in his favour.
