Not really a big race, but the “last chance to qualify your horse for the National” race and as such contains the 168 rated Nick Rockett, getting 3lb from the 132 rated, 14 year old Roi Mage* (if this was at Craon mind you, the old boy would probably launch the Rockett off the banks and into the poplar trees on his way to lifting the crystal)
Roi Mage is still better off at the weights than Clonmeen and the Gradual Slope though, who are only getting 7lb from Nick Rockett- they’d get four and a half stone from him in a handicap.
Perceval Legallois is in there too, the handicapper still working on the “fool me once, shame on you” principle; and the respectable veteran journeyman Brideswell Lad.
Elliott likes Down Royal but I don’t know if Gerri Colombe and Stellar Story will run on this ground and they’re both qualified for Aintree already.*fun fact- Roi Mage has won over a third of a million pounds more than Nick Rockett in his career…maybe Patrick Mullins should brush up his XC riding skills
March 15, 2026 at 12:30 #1760065Gerri declared, with Kennedy on, race fit and getting 7lb from the Rockett and a bit of rain forecast between now and Tuesday. Interesting.
March 15, 2026 at 15:10 #1760099Gerri is odds against (11-10) so I’ve taken taken that.
March 17, 2026 at 11:16 #1760288Good luck to you Greenasgrass, it looks in his favour. I’d like to see him back to his old self
I’m travelling north today for this, and at the price, around 6/1, I’ll hopefully be cheering on a big run from Perceval Legallois
March 17, 2026 at 12:06 #1760292He could easily pop up and spoil the party for me Autumnal. Safe journey and hope Down Royal not too cold and miserable today.
