    Prufrock,

I wouldn’t presume to represent anyone. I complained to RUK in my own (real) name and will be sending an e-mail to Channel Four protesting their decision in my own (real) name.

I would like Channel Four to view the range of opinions on the site. I can read – and do read the opinions of my fellow posters – and can quite clearly see the vehemence many posters display towards Big Mac.

I am referring to the BBC btw in the quote above. I feel about the BBC how many of TRF’s posters feel about Big Mac.

    Drone, no worries. :D

Nice first paragraph, NWRA. Agree entirely.

Whilst I agree McCririck occasionally comes up with some valid points I fear they end up not being taken seriously enough by those who make the decisions. This is largely because of the image he has portrayed and the manner in which he gets his points across. I dare say due his checkered past that a lot of people within the industry just dismiss out of hand anything he has to say. Therein lies the problem. Whether or not the point is a good one it’s going to be ignored because of what or who he is. What is possibly required is a more disciplined prominent figure to have the bollocks to speak out against the way certain areas are being ignored and forcing the authorities to come up with a more valid excuse than a "well its been like this for 200 years, we have a tradition to keep up" type of response.

I have to say he irritates the hell out of me and in concurrence with Andrew H the majority of the racing and non racing people I know can’t stand the fellow either. Still it seems a good number of people on TRF are comfortable with the image JM portrays of the sport. I’m all for getting somebody like Keeley Hawes myself, she looks pretty comfortable in front of a camera :)

As one of those who has posted positively about Big Mac on this thread, for me it is certainly not a matter of being "comfortable with the image JM portrays of the sport". For that I would be looking to someone like Tony McCoy who epitomises hard-working, courageous, highly skilled professionalism.

Quite often, I find Mac’s conduct downright embarrassing, particularly his on screen attitude towards women. But he is prepared to speak out controversially on significant issues when he judges it appropriate. For me, he is to racing what the late Alan Clark was to politics: neither a person one would want to be in charge of anything, but both worth their weight in gold (considerable, in Mac’s case!) in a world of non-thinking, non-boat rockers.

You wrote "For me, he is to racing what the late Alan Clark was to politics:"

You could well be right , but I suggest Alan Clark is remembered more for his womanising ways than anything he ever did in politics. I fear McCririck will be remembered similarly, more well known for other things rather than racing

Big Mac should think himself lucky he still has any hours, he should be grateful for reduced hours as that has to be better than no hours.

He is a pantomime character and not very likable. He is a spoilt brat (as proved on Celebrity Big Brother), he is sexist and degrading to women and is a stuck up pratt with the style of a slug.

Sack Big Mac "Stuck up sexist dinosaur"
Sack Tanya "lacking in both personality and confidence"
Sack Jim Mcgrath "Pompous pratt who brings nothing to the table"
Sack Leslie Graham "Brings nothing to the table, has an arrogant self confidence and appears clueless about everything, stuck up also"

Keep Derek "The King" Thompson – Genius presenter, anchor man, always makes you smile , very knowledgable and a likable man.
Keep John Francombe – He was a champion jockey and brings the jockey angle to the table. Worth keeping.
Keep Ted Walsh – Not a regular but always worth listening to his opinions.
Keep Alice Plunkett – She is a bit dizzy but she at least comes across as being nice and has a nice bum.
Keep Richard Hoiles – Always worth listening to and manages to give an informed opinion without a shred of arrogance about him. Likable and professional.

Bring in one new player – ie myself and you have a great racing show. How could I possibly be wrong?

The vicarious interest taken in other people’s sexual pecadillos being what it is, you are probably right re Alan Clark. But for me he will be remembered for being able to capture the essence of issues in a nutshell and express them in forthright terms, as with his advice to Mrs Thatcher on the community charge:

"The only objection to the tax, as far as I can see (and as I did in fact point out, to the manifest irritation of the Lady and all eleven other Ministers present except the Chancellor, is that no one will pay. It’ll be like jay-walking.

And by "no one" I mean all the slobs, yobs, drifters, junkies, free-loaders, claimants, and criminals on day-release, who make their living by exploitation of the benefit system and overload the local authority system. As usual the burden will fall on the thrifty, the prudent, the responsible, those of "fixed address", who patiently support society and the follies of the chattering class."

Strangeness is in the eye of beholder, what is strange to one is normal to another.

I am able to bring serious analysis to the table and I am able to bring ridiculous comments laced with sarcasm to the table lavishly dressed up to provoke reaction.

The way I see things is the strange ones are the ones who dress up in brogues, cashmere jackets and those dodgy brown suits with the stupid hats and bang on about notebooks and other such rubbish.
I have never spoke about any notebook and I would never dream of wearing the ghastly race goer uniform that so many in racing need to wear in order to make themselves fit in to there surrounding.

Thats a bit cheeky Fist comparing me to a fat sexist mannerless idiot.

I think im one of the very few users of the forum who doesnt take themselves to seriously. Some of the forumites need to chill out and relax a bit, some of the forumites need to fight the urge to make up pretend bets that they had (always at the best prices).

Only kidding guys, your a lovely bunch and there is not an ego in sight.

It kind of enforces my point. The powers that be ignored Mr Clark and went ahead anyway. I’m not saying McCririck is not right in all his ramblings but even when he is he’s pretty much ignored by the powers that be.

I wasn’t aware of Mr Clark’s advice as I’ve never taken that much interest in the finer points and unfortunately McCrirck suffers the same in that people are more interested in watching him be an arse than they are in his views on the whip.

I honestly can’t believe people are prepared to make a judgement on somebody based on their appearance on a show as pathetic as Big Brother!

I like JM and always have, he’s just one of those people to me, that when he speaks I have to listen. I may not always like (or agree) with what he says, but I certainly respect his knowledge of racing and betting.

Saying what you think and speaking your mind is something I have a lot of time and respect for, even if I don’t agree with it I still respect anyone like JM who is not afraid to ruffle a few feathers to get their point across.

Unfortunately though it seems nowadays that too many people take offence at the pettiest little things, and anyone who is prepared to say what they feel and possibly upset someone else in the process is looked on as a bad person.
