The RP has a report that a provisional plan was sent out to trainers on Friday it has the Guineas in early June and the Derby and Oaks in early July. This is on the assumption of racing starting in May.
Has anybody seen the plan sent to trainers?
Does it detail where the classics are planned to be run?
April 18, 2020 at 14:17 #1487431If and it’s a big IF,the classics can be run just a month later then because of the vandalism of the back end of the flat season 10 years ago by the Ascot champions day, there’s scope to catch up so the Ascot swamp fest can be run on its original date.
Still don’t understand why Ascot are insisting that the royal meeting is run in its original date though.April 18, 2020 at 14:52 #1487434I will be very surprised if the Guineas can be run in early June. I am doubtful that any racing will have started by then.
April 18, 2020 at 14:52 #1487435Does seem strange that the royal meeting is to be run at the normal time. I had not heard that it was at Ascots insistance.

I want some of whatever they are smoking at BHA Towers.
April 18, 2020 at 20:18 #1487442I’d imagine the BHA will be hoping Germany and France get racing asap so they can use it as an example for them to get going
April 18, 2020 at 20:49 #1487443I don’t see why at the end of this lockdown period, 7th May, racing behind closed doors could commence soon after.
At some stage we will have to come out of lockdown.
April 18, 2020 at 23:42 #1487444The government has set five key criteria which all have to be met before the lockdown is eased. It is difficult to see how all five will be met in the short term.
Personally I think the lockdown should be eased now that the NHS has built up capacity but the government seems to have painted itself into a corner. In these circumstances I cannot see racing or any other sport starting up any time soon. Really hope I am wrong because the last few Saturday afternoons have dragged without sport to watch!
April 19, 2020 at 08:15 #1487449NHS has built up capacity
Capacity for what? There is still a massive PPE shortage. This is one of the five criteria.
April 19, 2020 at 11:09 #1487454Capacity in terms of number of ICU beds.
April 19, 2020 at 17:53 #1487470It’s not just about lockdown. Where do the medical staff, ambulances etc at racecourses come from? If it’s just regular NHS then this is going to need to die down quite significantly before they are released for racing. Even if there’s no crowd to worry about, you can’t have a race meeting without ambulances following them round every step of the way.

So much negativity
April 20, 2020 at 11:53 #1487484Richard88, i don’t know the answer in terms of UK Racing but for Irish racing it is an existing contract with the Order Of Malta. This would allow them to get back racing as soon as possible.
Given it will be flat racing that commences first i would hope racing could start back as soon as the “total lockdown” is relaxed. I am no expert in all of this, but speaking to a few working in the hospitals etc. General A+E etc. are very quiet.
People saying that May is fanciful i believe are wrong. The world cannot go on like this for much longer. So many companies are going to fold, the government is going to have to handout more billions.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!April 20, 2020 at 13:40 #1487486Agree jackh1092, a May restart is not completely beyond the realms of possibilty.
Also agree that this lockdown cannot go on for too long there has to be a balance between the health and economical concerns. Some people seem to think that there is a bottomless pit of money, unless we want to come out of this worse than the great depression era, that cannot be the case.
April 20, 2020 at 17:22 #1487489Its 8/11 to restart on or before june 1st on the exchange
April 20, 2020 at 18:07 #1487490Like Runandskip pointed out they rearranging the Classics but not Royal Ascot assuming that lockdown gets lifted very soon. Which in my opinion is very likely with the falling death rate, but think Boris Will be calling the shots on that. Nothing gets in the way of Royal Ascot as demonstrated by the reopening of parliament last year.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.April 20, 2020 at 19:02 #1487491Royal Ascot and the reopening of parliament last year was obviously to do with HM The Queen. I would not imagine she will attending this year if it is held behind closed doors.
Encouraging news if the bookies are odds-on for a restart before June.
