Standout hoot for me is the 172 and 171 awarded to Inglis Drever and Kasbah Bliss respectively, for their Stayers efforts. A half-stone too high in each case, imo.
August 8, 2008 at 12:49 #176419I’d have to agree. Also, I hate to say it because I’m a huge fan of the horse, but Tidal Bay is too high at 166 for me. It’s probably not the case, but I can’t help but wonder if Phil Smith is guarding against getting his ar$e felt once again in the Hennessy/Paddy Power?

Over-rated, but half a stone a little too much perhaps
As a quick-n-dirty pounds-per-length summary of the race I’d be inclined to rate it around Blazing Bailey off a conservative 154, so ID ~166 and KB ~165 though that does assume that third placed Kazal ran about 10lbs better than he had done before, or did in his only race since.
For the record Timeform (sans time) went 167 and 166
BB’s subsequent wins at Aintree and Punchestown could be interpreted as upping the form of the Stayers but IMO more a case of the blinkers helping him concentrate than much actual physical improvement on his regulation mid-to-high 150s
At the height of this silly season Cheltenham does seem so long ago… and so far away
