Not my usual type of race this, but I do like the Musselburgh New Years Day Card, and this looks like being a competitive race…..

Newtown Boy, Project Bluebook, and Aristo Du Plessis all catch the eye, and Aristo in particular looks big, and I’m still considering him.
It’s another one who’s jumping out though, and it’s the Donald McCain trained Carry On. I really liked his debut win as a 3yo, and I was seriously considering a bet on him the other week at Doncaster.
He was 7’s, 8’s, but after sleeping on it, I woke to find him 16’s, and he eventually drifted to 25’s.
I left him out on that basis, but I watched him go round, and he was given a very interesting ride.
I think he’s got more to offer, and I’ll chance him early at 25’s. Not going mad yet, as I might add Aristo, but for now….

December 30, 2019 at 18:24 #1478554I agree with you on Aristo du Plessis Bobby. He won this 4 years back off a mark
of 145 and reached 150 that year. He has had some success since then and has become a
bit of a Wetherby specialist with 3 wins, the last of which was a very gutsy win last
December off of 132. It would be fair to say he’s been a bit inconsistent since then,
but his mark has been dropping as a result and he runs here off his lowest mark, 121,
since his 5yr old days. He is getting a bit long in the tooth now, turning 10 on the
day of the race, but if he has retained any of his ability he must have a decent chance
off his present mark. He tired late on at Wetherby last time out last month, but there
was money for him and he went off favourite so presumably he’s still showing something
at home. I think the 14/1 with William Hill is too big. I’m on
December 30, 2019 at 19:38 #1478567If Construct was to be a runner, i’d say he’s interesting. He’s not mark on the racing post and has only 2 hurdle starts, will he actually even get one?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 30, 2019 at 21:38 #1478574Looks like a Non Runner Jack.
Graham, took that 14’s Aristo myself, but as with Carry On, just a few quid until I actually see him declared.

Aristo Du Plessis 14’sDecember 31, 2019 at 10:01 #1478598I like Project Bluebook here, well I always do, but main fancy would be stablemate Ashington.
I will bet both of them if they’re declared.
January 1, 2020 at 10:26 #1478649An open contest and a case can be made out for a good few. One that may come in under the radar is SIR CHAUVELIN, a three times course winner who has been kept fit on the flat.
Have been to this meeting a few times in the past, but with a full house it’s just too crowded so giving it a miss.
January 1, 2020 at 15:29 #1478680Nice shout, rob.
January 1, 2020 at 19:14 #1478725Can you take dogs there? I saw one on the tv just now on catchup. If so we could go there next time we’re up north.
January 1, 2020 at 19:34 #1478727Good shout Rob
January 1, 2020 at 20:36 #1478729Thanks, good bit of placement by smiling Jin Goldie. The strong pace suited the winner who is best picking them off late.
Moehat – I think dogs are OK, but worth giving them a call in advance. Certainly seen them at some meetings.
January 1, 2020 at 21:52 #1478736Nicely done Rob
January 4, 2020 at 11:37 #1478928I thought that I had the 1-2 in the bag, so close. Sir Chauvelin was still a tidy winner, so well done Rob
