Entries out…….
https://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing/ante-post-racing/national-hunt/bet365-gold-cup/winner
Obvious distraction of Scottish National to come first, for which many of these are engaged, but no harm in an early look.
Black Corton – Definitely hasn’t had the season I expected from him, in fact he’s been a huge disappointment, and on more than one occasion, not convincing with his jumping. Put in his place last time at Kelso, but I thought there was just a chance on that run, that he might be worth changing up in trip. Certainly in no rush to bet him, but I can’t completely write him off either 16’s
Get On The Yager – Not a horse I’ve ever paid that much attention to. He did draw my attention though in the week leading up to The Midlands National, when he was very well supported. I couldn’t fathom it, I couldn’t have him at all, but he ran very well, finishing third, behind the runaway front pair. Dropped for that run, and he’s interesting 50’s
Le Reve – After a long spell in the doldrums, he’s sprang back to life this year, and though a slight reverse last time, he’s certainly had his moments round here, and he’ll surely head here, so one of the safer Antepost selections 25’s
Na Trachtalai Abu – Has work to do, but I’m not quite sure why’s he’s the outsider of this lot at 66’s. Fabulous run in The Munster National, and after hardly being disgraced in The Troytown, he’s of interest. No idea if this is a serious plan, but he’s clear been kept for something, and he’s a massive price. Might know more after Limerick on Thursday 66’s
Regal Flow – Very happy with his last two runs at Uttoxeter, then Ascot, and he looks well treated, despite his advancing years, and he’s definite shortlist material here 33’s
Theatre Guide – I’ve bet him for the last two renewals of this, and he’s ran very well both times. As good as ever his last two runs, and he’ll still come here 6 lbs lower than last year. I’d have him as almost guaranteed to trap here, and also bang in the mix. He makes loads of appeal at current price 25’s
Vyta Du Roc – Trainer said beforehand, that the horse had hated his prep over the course, for The Cross Country, yet bizarrely, he still ran him. Never a factor, but I just wonder if it was a quiet run round for him, to trim a few more pounds off. If so, mission accomplished. There’s also a good chance he’s not the same horse after his bout of colic, but it’s not that long ago that he was winning as he liked at Cheltenham. Very risky, but also very interesting 33’s
A smaller than usual shortlist then, and bar Black Corton, they all look overpriced. I’d sit him out just now, but can always come back to him. The others though, I really do like them all right now.
Not really done many “books” this year, and I’m tempted.
I’ll probably wait though on that front, with Ayr potentially causing more confusion.
I’m very very keen on 2016 winner, The Young Master, and after an excellent season, he still looks well treated, and if any sign he’s not going to Ayr, then I’ll back him.
Others (hopefully) going to Ayr, include my main hope for that race, Ibis Du Rheu, but if he were rerouted here, he’d be bet immediately. A winner waiting to happen.
Others who could cause confusion for me in the Ayr/Sandown quandry, are Chidswell, Give Me A Copper, Impulsive Star, and Van Gogh Du Granit.
I’d have The Young Master as early #1, but thankfully time on my side, and no need to rush in, bar maybe Theatre Guide, who’s surely too big at 25’s.
Early shortlist
Na Trachtalai Abu 66’s
Regal Flow 33’s
Theatre Guide 25’s
The Young Master 14’sApril 8, 2019 at 13:17 #1416839Give Me A Copper not declared for Ayr, so he could easily be added to the shortlist.
I’ll wait for confirmation of his wellbeing.
April 9, 2019 at 01:31 #1416904First play here, The Young Master, and I know he’s “blue” for The Scottish National, but he’s also getting bet for this.
Goes without saying that I’ll hardly be piling in right now, with so many question marks, but a small play just now, won’t do too much harm. I’ll save main bet for him when/if he’s declared.
Basically taking the chance that Impulsive Star will be heading to Ayr.
The Young Master 14’s
April 9, 2019 at 14:42 #1416931Wherever Step Back goes, I go with him.
April 15, 2019 at 01:24 #1417674I don’t really associate Skelton with staying chasers, but yard in decent form, so added second one here, with Get On The Yager.
Ran well at Uttoxeter in testing conditions, and given time to recover. He’ll be a pound lower than his last winning mark, when winning The Rowland Meyrick.
Get On The Yager 50’s Each Way
April 15, 2019 at 15:29 #1417702The Young Master as well. 11-1
April 15, 2019 at 19:54 #1417720I’m going to have a play on give me a copper , yager is a interesting home , been a bit dissapointing this season but there been a few big priced winners of this
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
April 15, 2019 at 21:04 #1417723If Step Back efforts in the Grand National hasn’t taken too much from him then he might be worth a flutter, got him at 20/1 with Unibet.
Also the fav Young Master at 11/1 with the sponsors is a worthy back up .
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.April 18, 2019 at 19:29 #1418044Gone with West Approach here. Seems to of improved a fair bit this year over hurdles compared to when he last ran over fences in the Hennessy
April 20, 2019 at 19:05 #1418741Get On The Yager out tomorrow, and ideal scenario would be a cosy win, which would hopefully give me a lay opportunity. If only it was that simple.
The other outsider I like, Regal Flow, is also in the same race, and I’d be happy for him just to get a blow in, as he seems the more likely of the pair to take in both races.
If neither go next week, and/or if things don’t go according to plan, I’ll probably go with Theatre Guide for the third year in a row in this race, as I suspect this will be the plan for him long term.
April 22, 2019 at 11:29 #1419113The Young Master and Theatre Guide for me. The former has been a rejuvenated character this season and the latter nearly brought me to tears last time out. Atonement here would be well deserved.
I’ve a woeful record in this race, so not going mental.
April 22, 2019 at 20:06 #1419169The Young Master 11-1 and Give Me A Copper 12-1 would be my two at the moment.
Just hoping they don’t get too much rain.
April 25, 2019 at 03:01 #1421466A race that’s been fairly good to me over the years and I’m hoping that Crievehill might keep
that going. He certainly likes it round here and absolutely sluiced up by 20L here last
March (2018) over 2m 4f off a mark of 129. He was rightfully clobbered 9lbs for that,
but still managed to follow up with a decent 2nd off topweight at Haydock, off of 138
and giving nearly 2st to the winner. A further runner up again next time out at Uttoxeter
in September saw him bumped up again to 146. I think by this time the handicapper had the
measure of him, and in the 2 runs at the tail end of the year, and 2 earlier this year,
he’s laboured a bit finishing 6th, 6th, 4th and 4th, although the last of those was in
the Kim Muir at the Festival and he ran an encouraging race under his amateur rider. The
handicapper has relented a little each time and he’s back down to a mark of 138, where he
was previously very competitive, and I think that gives him every chance here. He’s 20/1 at
the moment and I’ve taken that as I think he could go off in single figures if the NTD yard,
who aren’t adverse to a bit of a punt, think they have him there with a good shout. I’ll be
keeping a close eye on the market.April 25, 2019 at 17:54 #1422247My main selection here would be
Give Me A Copper 12-1
I thought his run at Sandown two months ago was very encouraging, and a return here may suit more than Cheltenham.
I’ll always have a backup in a race like this, and I will definitely add one more, maybe two, which are Le Reve and Vyta Du Roc, who are 20-1 and 25-1
April 25, 2019 at 23:12 #1422847I have backed two in this in the hope that we get another Just A Par result Bobby

JUST A STING 14/1 Looked a good stayer in the making before Cheltenham then ran just okay in the KIM Muir and hoping the decent ground brings about a bit of improvement.
CAPTAIN CHAOS at 25/1 Another one that ran okay int eh Kim Muir having ran well a couple of times behind Lake View Lad and I think this race will suit him and Harry and Dan will be looking to finish off the season with a bang!!
Good Luck Guys
April 25, 2019 at 23:13 #1422848The Young Master is having his best season since 2016, when he won this off the back of a 3rd place in The Ultima. He was 3rd in last month’s Kim Muir, has a cracking weight as well as the most experienced 3lb claimer in the history of racing (!) and looks like he’ll get his ground.
Rolling Dylan looks like he’s been wanting this trip, and if his resolution matched his talent, I’d be close to tipping him over TYM. But he could well be placed, possibly run out of it close home. Present Man another who’ll get his ground and his favoured clockwise track although he’d need to overcome a ‘days since last race’ stat that goes back to at least 1997 (I’ve no records beyond that). He returns after a 93 day hiatus (wind surgery on Jan 29th). Longest break since 97 was 56 days.
April 26, 2019 at 00:46 #1423080Joe, I hope it’s a quiet run for Present Man, I want him to drop a couple of pounds for Wincanton in November lol
