November 12, 2017 at 18:28 #1326524Good thread nwalton
I wouldn’t know who the best is but Qaysar of Richard Hannon’s is in my notebook.
Ran a stormer on debut going down a length at Newmarket (25th Oct) to a horse holding an Irish Derby entry from Charlie Appleby’s yard. Also in the field that day was 4/7 fav Elwazir by Frankel who finished in 4th, that one still a maiden and holds entry’s in both Epsom and Irish Derby’s.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

November 12, 2017 at 20:53 #1326543Gardens of Babylon & Latrobe who finished 2nd & 3rd in an above average Irish maiden could be worth keeping an eye out for next year.

Sorry N I didn’t read the question properly and posted up winning 2yo’s.
Will come back with 2 or 3 Maidens for you next week.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 13, 2017 at 00:20 #1326571Oh, I’m itching to move it to “Trends, Research and Notebooks” lol
You know me N, at this time of year, I’m always armed to the teeth with Maidens for next years Flat, so here’s a couple off of my long list**, which I think will be decent.
Sam Gold
Sneem**These are obviously the only two I know.
November 13, 2017 at 00:41 #1326574Bobby I think you need to move my list to Room 101 for not reading the question properly..none of my choices are MAIDENS
It’s so late and I’ve had the whole fami!y round and drank too much wine so that’s my excuse before I delete it all..apologies to nwalton I’ll try to sort out a couple of Maidens that ran well when I go back through my Newmarket racecards next week.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...November 13, 2017 at 02:19 #1326576Coolmore gave 900 grand for Galileo filly, Forever Together. She ran twice in backend maidens in October. Only 10/1 on debut, so cant imagine they’ve done too much with her yet. Looks all stamina. Will be interesting to see how she gets on in an Oaks next year, if she makes it that far.
November 13, 2017 at 06:45 #1326579cheers everyone have been watching those named, VTC feel free to move it and triptych hope you ‘aint got to much of a hang over today, look forward to your selected maidens . lol
November 13, 2017 at 17:03 #1326608My notebook’s taking on board a few new additions I’m happy to say.
Personally I think a young colt in John Oxx’s yard is worth keeping an eye on and his name is Waikuku. He only ran once this year and finished 5th on bad ground in probably the best maiden run all year. That was at the Curragh in August over 7 furlongs. ATR’s write up of this effort was “rear of mid-division, closer in 7th and pushed along 2f out, soon ridden and kept on without threatening” which doesn’t give him as much credit as I think he’s due. He’s by Harbour Watch out of a Danehill Dancer mare so by no means bred to win the Derby but I think he could claim some decent prizes and maybe at decent prices.
Now I’m just waiting for someone to pop up and tell me he’s injured or moved overseas to make me look a lemon!
November 13, 2017 at 20:20 #1326622Interesting thread this. Will give it some thought. For now I’ll mention one I have had an eye on this season.
John Gosden’s Doswell is a son of Giant’s Causeway and he made his debut on the 14th of July at Newmarket over 7F. Things didn’t start well when he unseated his rider behind the stalls. He was pretty sweaty and when you see a Gosden runner at 20/1 you know that it is not expected to win.
Pretty slowly away, Doswell made up the ground and came into the race going quite well. At one stage he seemed to be going just best but he didn’t quite pick up as well as the jockey perhaps thought. Doswell did knuckle down though and I thought he was just going to get up but Godolphin’s Being There (11/10 Fav) just held on by a head.
All things considered it was a great first effort and Doswell earned a good opening figure of 87 from the Racing Post. You would think improvement was guaranteed.
The race video can be seen here:-

Doswell was a non runner on his next two outings. The first time was on a self certificate and the second time it was for being unruly in the stalls. That second race was won by Mark Johnston’s Dream Today, who was very highly tried afterwards and you get feeling Doswell was well fancied that day, as he was 7/2 when withdrawn.
Connections have addressed the issue by gelding the horse this month and with his earlier promise there is a chance he might have a decent career ahead of him if the gelding operation has done the trick.
Maybe he won’t make it but I just felt he might be an under the radar sort who might turn out decent.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
November 13, 2017 at 21:30 #1326638Snowflakes was being campaigned identically to Clemmie and was being mentioned in the same breath as her until she met with a setback during/after Royal Ascot. She’s entered in the Irish 1000 Guineas and still in training, so will hopefully make it back next year. If she does, it might be too much to expect her to do a Winter on Clemmie in the 1000 Guineas, but she may be a surprise package in the same way her big sister was.
November 14, 2017 at 06:34 #1326662thanks again to all notebook is filling up nicely
November 21, 2017 at 20:23 #1327949Charles, got in touch with John Oxx yard regarding Waikuku, they told me,stays in training was just big and weak so decided to put him away
