Sorry I’m bored and into The Lounge I go

My vote goes to Lloyd Grosman curry sauces esp. The Balti
Any tasty sauce in a jar I should know about
April 8, 2009 at 01:59 #220823All bottles I know about.
Reggae Reggae is obviously pretty good with certain things. Branstons Hot Chilli and Jalapeno relish isnt bad in a chicken burger (makes it taste a bit like a mcchicken premiere).
Tried Jack Daniel’s Chilli BBQ sauce and wasnt too big on it.
Tried some wee Chilli sauce which I think had a yello label and it was brilliant, cant for the life of me remember the brand though.
Admittedly I dont know that much about the jarred sauces, however the curry house down the road from me, when I lived in Swindon area used a lot of Patak’s sauces etc, and I absolutely loved their currys. Have always struggled to muster the motivation to actually make my own curry though, as a telephone delivery curry is just too easy.
April 8, 2009 at 02:18 #220831Pataks used to do a curry in a tin that was my favourite curry of all time; they still do the sauces, but when I add my own meat it never tastes like the one they made….Pataks definately better than Sharwoods imo; Lloyd Grossman I find is a bit too heavy handed with the garlic.

April 8, 2009 at 02:30 #220836Note: Won’t be using my own meat
April 8, 2009 at 03:01 #220842…it’s been a long day, guys………….
April 8, 2009 at 11:02 #220852Gave up on jars of curry sauce years ago – none of them really flot my boat.
Now only make my own from scratch each time – it doesn’t take that much longer and it means I get the flavour, combination of spices and heat exactly how I want it, not what someone in a lab in a white coat dictates.
The only sauce in a jar which cannot be matched at home is Heinz Tomato Ketchup.
April 8, 2009 at 12:16 #220859Encona East Indian Hot Pepper Sauce – hands down, plus it goes with anything. I literally get through a bottle a week.
Also have various other chilli sauces – the hottest being a 357 Mad Dog special edition which is 16,000,000 units on the scoville scale. It’s warm

April 8, 2009 at 23:57 #220960How coincidental, I’ve just had Lloyd Grossman Thai Red Curry and it’s rather nice.
I usually make my own but can’t be bothered midweek/after work.
Hmmm this must be my first post in a while – hello forumites! (I do monitor TRF regularly though!)

Lee
I actually think thats the one Lee, Encona, its bloody quality. The underdog of the Sauce world. Actually looked for it in asda the other week but couldnt see it (obviously didnt know the name so couldnt ask).
PS Welcome back Meshaheer..
April 9, 2009 at 10:51 #220994The Grosman tomato and roasted garlic is a good start to make your own pasta sauce, I don’t really go in for the spicy food, so I can’t comment on the others.
April 9, 2009 at 13:52 #221009Oooh you are posh, you lot.
Why not get yourselves to the supermarket and get the WHOLE LOT in a single TIN!!
The Co-op have a tasty Tikka Masala on price buster for £1.25. Asda do a hot chicken curry for 99p (region and type unspecified). Morrisons supply a tasty Sweet and Sour Chicken for £1.25. I did buy a Tyne Brand Beef Curry (region and type unspecified), but I’ve not eaten it yet. There are no Tescos near where I live.
All of them do a tinned Bombay Potato as an accompaniment (around 75p) and something called a Chicken Pea Doll (around 80p) which I’ve not tried, but intend to.
For those with a heartier appetite why not microwave
two
tins in a larger dish?
April 9, 2009 at 17:16 #221046Brianna’s Dijon Honey Mustard…………..goes great with anything green and leafy.
I should also add that Ainsley Harriott’s BBQ sauce is the best I’ve tried by some way, though that doesn’t excuse him for being an annoying tosspot.

Any one tasted "Fist of furys" Bangkok BBQ sauce? very firey and full of
additives that leave a rather unpleasant after taste! its very good for removing Bulls**t stains though!April 10, 2009 at 22:31 #221241Brianna’s Dijon Honey Mustard…………..goes great with anything green and leafy.
It is rather good. Agreed. the poppy seed one too
as are Delouis fils dressings (and superb Mayo) from Waitrose
as for jarred sauces, Tescos finest tikka is a real suprise… excellent
and although i find hima pain…Grossmans pasta sauces are easily the best …esp tom and chilli
