i think the only way Best Mate will EVER be remembered listening to some of you on here will be for him to enter something like the King George at Ascot in July, get him to race off 12st over 1 1/2m on firm ground and see him trounce the Derby winner (Yeats) by half the track. Then, prepare him to run in the National, again conceding weight to all, on a bog. Maybe the other jockeys could be armed with sticks to poke the horse and Jim Culloty when they go round.
The horse has won three gold cups. I think his legacy is well intact whether or not he runs in handicaps, helps set up a hospital for the blind in Bangladesh, or even kills Jim Lewis in a bizarre smothering incident.:o
