Actually that GO TO HELL comment was gamble’s not mine.
Whenever I start writing about the past he prizes open the sock drawer and does some SPLASH. It’s his unpredictable interference that makes writing a bit of a pain.

I don’t wish to get into a value argument Ginger but it is an imprecise thing to assess, or know you have consistently found. If you are up on your betting after X amount of bets then you can probably rule out luck and surmise you are betting with value. Parameters can change though and X is a big number.

Value is much easier to see after the race.

Advice – no one forces you to have a bet. Bookies are more or less obliged to bet but if you don’t like the odds walk away and look somewhere else.

It is impossible to bet on a race after the winner is known, Colin.
So “value” does not exist after the race.

    —————–

It is possible to make an overall profit from luck. eg One or two lucky massive accumulator wins can pay for an awful lot of losing bets. But if continuing for long enough even they will end up losing in the end.

…It is possible for a punter to make an overall profit without looking for value, but value is what was achieved… And if continuing for long enough without taking value into account will probably lose that profit. One thing is for sure, those looking for value have a greater chance of overall profit than those not looking for value.

Getting the best odds available for a particular horse, or beating SP is not necessarily “value”. Yes, value is “imprecise”, in any one race many good value seekers will come up with different “value” selection/s. Nobody will back value every time and it is the punter’s overall profit which tells if value has been found. Many punters will know form back to front and still make a deficit. Punters need to know the form and be good at evaluating form into chance. If not then he / she has little chance of making an overall profit.
