Southwell Christmas Meeting
2 days of 0-65 handicaps, Easy to place a bet and have a drink as the crowd is about 25, Lovley girl jocks like Hayley and Kirsty turn up for decent rides and you may see a fair backward 2yo.
Who am i kidding, Aintree for me, Great racing and sexy Scouse girls wearing very small outfits whose idea of extra protection is to wear two thongs instead of one
July 1, 2008 at 21:02 #171220I’m off to the last two days of the Hamburg Derby Meeting at the weekend. Nice to see some top international jockeys there as well.
Apart from that, there are the Baden-Baden festivals (three of them). The atmosphere is really relaxed, and I hope to be there again this year.
As for UK festivals, I’ve been to Cheltenham 3 times (although not recently), and the atmosphere is something else. You just can’t beat it.
As for festivals I’d like to go to, Auteuil, Bad Harzburg and Punchestown would be high up on the wish list.

I have to ask this because I sadly haven’t been to that many Irish race meetings – although it is something I aim to rectify.
These "vendors" seem to appear at every Irish meeting I have been to – despite there being "no hawking" signs outside the courses.
Is this something that happens at all meetings or have I just been "unlucky"?
Is it something the courses sort of unofficially accept – a bit like the "lucky heather" sellers at Ascot and Epsom?
July 1, 2008 at 23:43 #171252I believe so Paul, although (despite being a bona fide paddy) I’v only been to a dozen or so Irish meetings, but the theme has been the same.
July 2, 2008 at 00:13 #171257So basically, what we’re saying is that when I go to the La Touche Cup next year, I’m going to come back with a fridge freezer!!!

Yes, but it’ll be a bargain!
July 2, 2008 at 09:43 #171270i hated goodwood and left halfway through the card – they let far too many people in making it uncomfortable and difficult to do anything without long queues

dont forget your "4 bars for 2 euro or 50cent each??"
July 2, 2008 at 10:31 #171279For me Cheltenham for the jumps and Goodwood for the flat.
July 2, 2008 at 10:44 #171283About 2 years ago at Punchestown one of the oul wans there wanted me to go and buy 20 racecards and bring them back out to her. I nearly got chucked out of the course when I went to buy them for her.
You never see them outside Croke Park or Lansdowne Road though – must be just a racing thing. They used to be IN Croke Park during the 1980’s hawking during the matches. Miss them there now – 20 minute queue for a poxy sandwich.

July 2, 2008 at 11:00 #171289You’ll still find them at all the GAA Munster Championship matches, particularly in Cork and Thurles for some reason. There’s always a few at Turners Cross on Friday nights as well where I do my pre match stock up. I remember years ago they were allowed to go into the crowds during big hurling matches where they absolutely cleaned up.
July 2, 2008 at 11:01 #171290Don’t worry David- as a Lillywhite you won’t be there much this year
