November 22, 2008 at 00:33 #191180Irish Raptor and Southern Vic for me, both horses have been getting money all week, irish raptor more so than SV, but have always been a fan of Southern Vic, mostly to my own cost, but no reason to give up on him when he appears fancied in arace he should have a chance in.
November 22, 2008 at 00:54 #191189I think Gungadu can outclass them on a flat track at this trip.
November 22, 2008 at 01:55 #191202Gungadu has got class and ran ok first time out and he should be in the shake up.
Im keen on seeing Idle Talk running a big race, I know he has had his jumping problems in the past but ran well for a long time last year and put in a great round of jumping back at Doncaster in January, At Carlisle first time out he ran ok even though the track didnt suit him.
November 23, 2008 at 16:50 #191516Is anyone worried about Gungadu this afternoon? Hasn’t run well at Aintree twice now and the blunder he made on the Mildmay in April does concern me now he goes over the big ones.
I was there in April and there was a bit of support for him before the race but I remember it was such an apalling mistake that my first thought was he can never win a National (based on his jumping let alone from a stamina perspective).
If he wins today and jumps well then I will be very relieved but I am very concerned.
November 23, 2008 at 17:24 #191524Can not see why Mr Pointment is not a long way clear in the betting for this. Jumps particularly well and proven here, stays well, races prominently (big advantage on this course), laid out for the race, fairly handicapped.
Of the others I like Idle Talk and Gungadu. But a bit worried former is better fresh and latter may not stay (saved on them).
Irish Raptor has a good record around here but that may be a coincidence as he’s not usually that good a jumper. Stable in fine form though.
Out The Black could be the best outsider but doubtful stayer.
Value Is EverythingNovember 23, 2008 at 20:20 #191547Great round of jumping there by Black Apalachi – hope he stays fit and well for the National.
Not quite sure why Mr Pointment stopped like he did. Terrible week for Paul Nicholls, hope he gets back to winning ways soon.

Well, may be I should have said Mr Pointment as long as the heavens did not open (heavy instead of good-soft). And as long as the connections did not think they’d drop him out the back (for the very first time). Jumping slowly early, losing ground at every fence until halfway.
As I said over these fences it is a big advantage being ridden prominently. Winner of Sefton front ran, winner and third of Beecher front ran. May have been different had Mr Pointment been up there throughout. Though I can understand them wanting to conserve his staying power under a big weight on the ground.

The Ginger PreacherValue Is EverythingNovember 23, 2008 at 22:11 #191569Did Black Apalachi to small stakes in the National so had to try and recoup stakes today. Wasn’t impressed to see he was Pricewise pick but having seen the 20s shrink to 12s by lunchtime when I put bet on hadn’t expected to be on the wrong end of yet another SP collapse so let the bet roll.

Some of the betting markets on northern racecourses seem to be incredibly weak.

What do you mean? I thought ST timed his run to perfection to snatch second close home…
