Johnnywho is a proper target horse of mine, and after following him closely the last two years, and continually putting him up, I’m still no closer to deciding when to have a proper punt on him. This looks an obvious race for him, and he’s heading the market. I’ll cover him on the day as a saver, but he could equally be targetted at Kim Muir, Chepstow, and I wouldn’t even rule out The Paddy Power at Leopardstown. He’s surely winning somewhere.
Crucially for this though, he now has experience over the fences. Although I prefer a horse in The National to have never been round there before, I like one with experience in The Becher. That’s causing me a further headache with him.
Got another trio I’m really keen on, all with experience round there……
Bill Baxter – Former Topham winner, who’s a bit of a rejuvenated character. Very keen on him
Roi Mage – Veteran stage now, but retains enough ability, ran well in a couple of Nationals, and that 40’s is smashing
White Rhino – Nice leisurely stroll round in The Grand Sefton, and I thought he’d be fighting favouritism. He’s 25’s. Mad
Also drawn to Dom Of Mary, and Val Dancer, but have to whittle the shortlist for now. Chambard is the last winner of this, and no surprise to see a return to form here too
Got to keep the shortlist to three, and already bet White Rhino
Bill Baxter
Roi Mage

November 23, 2025 at 21:03 #1745495I’d be more interested in Gaboriot of the Greenall and Guerriero pair but he’s unlikely to get in off a mark of 125.
If Mr Vango lines up I’ll be on him as I just love his jumping. Whilst Tanganiyaka ran very well for a long way on seasons debut last week at Cheltenham.
November 26, 2025 at 22:24 #1745665Bill Baxter vtc, how can I forget that run at Punchestown

I’ll be sure to bet him too if he makes the line up, but my ante-post is King Turgeon at 25-1. I think that that is just too big for him in this
November 28, 2025 at 04:51 #1745738Bill Baxter capitalised on a ratings drop of 126 to win over fences last time, is 139 in this which he has never come close to winning off so looks up against it unless the field cuts up.
November 28, 2025 at 14:39 #1745772I hope Mahons Glory will get a better ride in this after his inexperienced jockey seemed not to realise that Aintree is a left handed course in the Sefton. 50-1 ew will do me.
November 30, 2025 at 07:22 #1746202Plenty of old favourites in this and I can easily see myself having three or four come the day, but at this time the one who stood out to me at initial entries and even moreso after yesterday is Galia Des Liteaux. Plummeted down the weights, had a great spin in the Grand National a couple of years back, and I needn’t explain the perks of her trainer. I’ve been waiting until decs before committing for the most part this season, but I’ll have an early go on her.
Others of interest at this point are White Rhino, Henry’s Friend, Colonel Harry, Twig, King Turgeon, and Mr Vango…

I’ll just stick with the one for now.
November 30, 2025 at 20:29 #1746309Mr Vango (though top weight a worry)
Gaboriot
Val DancerVF x
December 1, 2025 at 15:59 #1746372The 3 I’m interested in all stand their ground. Gaboriot sneaks in at the bottom due to about 20 none decs after initial entry stage!
Mr Vango possibly on the short side on first run of the season and April being the main aim.
Tanganyika, certainly not stable form that you would like to see going into a race but I was there on greatwood hurdle day when he ran well for a long way. If that brings him on you’ll get a good run for your money.
Gaboriot running on very well in the Sefton and I’m sure he’s going to run well again.
December 1, 2025 at 18:03 #1746400Won’t all those at 143 or lower need to win to get into the GN? (Remembering Mr Vango not getting in last year). And anything at 143-146 doesn’t want to be losing too many pounds, which they might if they finish 40 lengths off the winner after a sighter here.
Will those at those weights actually want to get in the GN?
The 133-140 horses can’t afford a spin round if they really want to get in. They have to win to get their handicap up high enough to get in. Anything less than 133 probably wouldn’t get in even with a win.
December 2, 2025 at 12:06 #1746463Taken White Rhino each way
December 2, 2025 at 14:01 #1746467Gaboriot as the main bet at 8-1, with Iron Bridge the backup bet at 16-1
December 2, 2025 at 16:59 #17464746/1 Mr Vango appeals greatly. I’d have him a 7/2 chance. But I must stick to my vow of waiting for final decs!
December 2, 2025 at 17:14 #1746476Excello is my early fancy for this.
Ran a cracker in the Grand Sefton when lacking a prep and Hendo’s stable wasn’t firing then like it is now.
Have a small stake on Mahons Glory as backed him last time but the jockey gave him a horrible ride. Did well to finish where he did.
Excello – 24/1
Mahons Glory – 37/1December 3, 2025 at 03:50 #1746521Gaboriot 17-2 ew 4 places
December 3, 2025 at 07:46 #1746523Tanganyiaka now appears Sandown bound with Charlie Deutsch already jocked up on him in the London national.
Could be well worth a bet in that if it becomes bottomless. However Venetia’s horses are still waiting to turn a corner.
December 3, 2025 at 18:34 #1746552As well as waiting for tomorrow’s 48 hours decs, the weather looks horrendous for Friday, with a copious amount of rain forecast.
Will make the ground on Saturday quite testing one thinks, so expect some withdrawals, Friday eve/Sat morn i reck. - AuthorPosts
