Other horses may be more consistent, Nathan. But Battaash is the horse that can put up the best performance. That means his best form is better than any other horse can put up at their best. ie Battaash is the best racehorse.

Timeform ratings are for individual performances aren’t they. Inasmuch as you can judge a sprinter against a middle distance horse (like judging a champion hurdler against a 3m staying chaser) I’d say bolting home alone with nothing to race against in a course record time is worthy of the top rating. Ok he didn’t beat much but the time tells its own story. The fact that he wouldn’t win over 6f on soft or if he went bonkers at the start again is neither here nor there. For consistency, versatility in trip and finding a way to win in the face of any ground conditions, team tactics, lack of race fitness etc then Enable and probably Stradivarius are better racehorses. But for one stellar performance the Nunthorpe was it.
Ratings are not the holy grail, never said they are. But they do show how good each horse is at their bests.
Enable has the best consistency, which is a wonderful asset but different.

As regards who would I rather own out of Battaash, Enable, Stradivarius and Crystal Ocean…

Not that it has anything to do with how high a rating can be, but Battaash has won 2 Group 1’s. 2017 Abbeye the other one.
Battaash has also put up 6 individual Timeform performance ratings of 130+ in his life. Enable has just 1 to her name, albeit would be 4 if adding the 3 lb allowance.
