Perth superstar sprinter Barakey had his first test at Group 1 WFA level with a great win to remain unbeaten after 11 starts in the $500 000 Winterbottom Stks in Perth. This is the same race that has been won in the past by such horses as Miss Andretti,Takeover Target,Ortensia and super sprinter Placid Ark. Running into a strong headwind and taking on another boom Perth sprinter in Travinator the pair scorched the turf in front and the race was set up for a horse sitting off the speed but Barakey showed he has a ton of guts as well as being an elite sprinter. Trained by the same man who trained Hay List to win his first 7 starts in Perth,Jim Taylor who regarded Barakey as better than Hay List prior to his first start.Looks like he will probably be put away now to be readied for the benchmark sprint in Australia, the Newmarket Hcp in March, a race won by most of the great sprinters at Flemington. It will put a lot of interest into racing to see if Barakey can keep the unbeaten streak going in his next few runs.

If he really is in the same class as Hay List, do you think they might be up for an invite to the King’s Stand/Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot next year?

I see he’s from the Princequillo male line, not too many sprinters can boast that these days!

They could well be Venusian, particularly if he can win the Newmarket in the Autumn. One thing you dont see too often with horses like Barakey is that his strapper who works for the trainer owns half of him! That is good to see in racing. The jock had to put a couple around his backside before the turn,as Travinator is a flying machine and was bolting on the turn.Though with the frantic pace Travinator folded in the straight,he is apparently a lazy track worker so it was a big effort. It would be good to se him over there,i suppose he has a way to go to definately prove he is in the top 2 or 3 in the world but he has done all that could be asked of him so far’
