Alright folks, my bands recently become 3 from 4 and we’re gonna change our name as a result (We were called the Publik)
And as is the way with these things we’re struggling to come up with anything decent so all suggestions are welcome!!!!! Best we’ve got yet is:
Hush
Cutback
Drop Off Point
We’re an indy band by the way…
August 16, 2006 at 16:22 #102377Why are you changing your name?
August 16, 2006 at 17:07 #102378A band I used to play in was going to be called ‘The Harveys’ but changed our mind in the end to something else. However, I always liked ‘The Harveys’ which was inspired by the idea of ‘Harvey’ the invisible giant rabbit in the James Stewart film.

or maybe Threequarters or 0.75 ?
The Survivors ?
The Band With No Name ?
TAFKAP ? (the artists formerly known as publik) ?
does anyone come and watch – if not how about The Lonely ?
Etc (that wasn’t a suggestion but it could be)

August 29, 2006 at 11:52 #102393Cheers guys!! Haven’t been on here for a while, hence why I haven’t responded.. We’re changing the name cos one of the badn has laft and it doesn’t feel right to carry on with the same name.. Best we’ve come up with so far are:
Cutback
Sureshot
Drumfire (yes, I did get that from the horse that won the 2yo group race the other day!!)
And I think steering away from including Indy in the name would be a good idea!!!
The term Indy band was originally coined for bands signed to independent labels ie not Warner’s or some other international conglomerate, now it’s been diluted to mean bands that play guitars and sing something akin to rock music but not of the heavy kind.. Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, Zutons would all be considered indy bands… Or if your too old, Blur or Oasis.. failing that I give up!!

Jilly, thanks. ;)
I’m glad someone else remembers the correct rendering of the term "indie", Aragorn, bless you! The mis-appropriation of this term from around the mid-90s onwards (not helped when the previously faultless Indie Top 20 compilation series started featuring major-distributed bands and a far narrower remit) is one of the saddest things to have happened in music in my lifetime.
Apropos of prospective names, I’m glad you went for something other than Humousexual or Firmturds, both names under which my brother has already released material (true!). I’d record under the name of Fleetline – after the make of bus – if I ever got round to it, but that’s a mighty big "if".
