I’m finding it hard to work these novices out. They can’t all be Faugheens lol. Mullin’s look to be needing their runs and combined with a few of them starting off with a bumper before heading over hurdles it’s hard to know what he’s got. Generally he doesn’t do too badly! Yet this year so far, Elliot’t look miles ahead. Will that last?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 18, 2019 at 15:45 #1475293Elliot always gets his best horses out earlier than Mullins. As long as they are well Elliot usually starts them at Down Royal. I think it’s fair to assume that Envoi Allen, Andy Dufresne and Abracadabras are probably his best 3. The Novice that Mullins seems most excited about this year is a Mare, Lamerckise. Mullins still has loads of Novices to get out. Horses to watch out for who never made the track last year due to ground; En Beton (Cheevely Park), El Barra (Ricci), Asterion Ferlonge (Donnelly’s), Pragmatic (Cheevely Park), Aione (Ricci), Passageway is a Mullins horse that didn’t race last year but the year before he beat City Island in a Punchstown Bumper. None of the above mentioned horses were mentioned in the Stable tour so god knows if they’re still alive but they were all high profile purchases.
Jon Snow was a horse Ricci was looking forward to but the market never moved on him like it did for the likes of Melon, Min, Douvan etc.. Ferny Hollow is one that got a mention in the stable tour; he’s a new Cheevely Park purchase to look out for. I’d keep an eye out on the Maiden Hurdle at Leopardstown on 26th December; that’s where klassical Dream debuted last year.
Some Mullins Novices that have done well include The Big Getaway, Tactical Move, Blackbow (grand for first run), Elixir D’Ainay and Blue Sari (you’d imagine he will come on). Still though, Envoi Allen has impressed me more than any Novice I’ve seen so far this year. Andy Dufresne looks exciting also.
Joseph has had some good Novices so far and the one he’s looking forward to most is D’Lauro, so looking forward to seeing what he can do.
November 18, 2019 at 16:12 #1475296They might not be all that, but they both look aeroplanes to me. EA has proven his class already and his form is stacking up insanely well. AD hasn’t the same substance, but he looks nailed on Grade 1 class to me.
You can hear hype all you want about WPM horses but i prefer to punt on the evidence from my eyes rather than my ears. Annamix last season being a perfect example. Antepost markets normally tell a story also, they haven’t said anything yet this season.

This boys no longer with us!
Mullin’s hype horses are always about, but then there’s the Klassical Dreams etc. that aren’t quite talked about as much as Annamix. He’ll have some good’ns come out i’m sure and i don’t think Elliot is going to win every novice hurdle G1 this year, maybe i’m wrong and at this stage most would say i am!

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 25, 2019 at 16:35 #1475874Dlauro runs in a Maiden Hurdle tomorrow at Punchestown. Be very interesting to see if he can back up his price tag.
November 27, 2019 at 19:58 #1475996Elliott said: “We’ve got a great bunch of novice hurdlers this year. I suppose Abacadabras is a speedy horse whereas with Envoi Allen, you could see him stepping up as the year goes on. He’s a big galloping, staying horse. They’re two exciting horses and someone has to get beaten.”
Sounds like ballymore is still very possible for envoi allen
November 28, 2019 at 00:20 #1476015Yeah; but what happens when he beats Abracadabras over 2 miles?
November 28, 2019 at 02:29 #1476018He already showed he is better than abacadabras over 2 miles twice in bumpers so I’m not sure this race will really show us anything we dont already know
Elliot describing him as a big galloping stayer doesnt scream supreme to me
November 28, 2019 at 09:37 #14760232 mile bumpers aren’t necessarily the same as 2mile hurdle races though FF.
I think both races are very much options and if the landscape of the novices stays the same Elliot will juggle them to see best fit. There will be other yards with other novices, Klassical Dream didn’t run until Xmas. When that becomes clearer, i think we’ll find out more.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 28, 2019 at 10:33 #1476024The conundrum for Elliott is that he also has Andy Dufresne who also looks like a machine. So Envoi Allen could head for the Supreme if he is beating the 2 milers because they have Andy Dufresne in the yard.
November 28, 2019 at 15:45 #1476033JP will have a big say indirectly. Gordon wont want Andy Dufresne and Envoi Allen taking each other on. JP has Blue Sari, Unexcepted and Andy Dufresne plus whoever he has with Nicky Henderson. You woyuld think that Blue Sari and Unexcepted are probably more Supreme horses meaiing Andy Dufresne will be Ballymore bound meaning Envoi Allen will end up in the Supreme. Lots can happen between now and then of course
November 28, 2019 at 18:25 #1476041Surely cheveley park wont just lie down like that and let JP dictate who goes where
If envoi allen is as good as many think he is then he will go where his owners think he has the best chance of winning
Whether that be here or the supreme
December 1, 2019 at 13:08 #1476289Envoi allen very much looks like hes gonna be better over further to me
December 1, 2019 at 13:17 #1476290He can put the Cheltenham hill to good use in the Supreme. Whether he’s as good going 5 furlongs further the Cheltenham Hill and Andy Dufresne is open for debate.
See what trainer says.December 15, 2019 at 04:05 #1477368Andy Dufresne running today.
December 15, 2019 at 12:08 #1477381First time off the bridle in a race and he found nothing
Head carriage didnt look the most genuine either
Very dissapointing
December 15, 2019 at 12:16 #1477382Hopefully can bounce back.
