The O’Brien duo could not have had more contrasting nights in the USA.
Deauville landed the Belmont Derby by a neck in what looked a fairly mediocre field.
Later on Ballydoyle was hot fav at 2/1 for the Oaks but she never got into the race, always trailing them and dropping tamely away to be a distant last.
I always thought Ballydoyle looked like a horse best forcing the pace at 7F and I never saw her as an Oaks filly. This was 10F and firm ground but she looked legless.
I am concerned how she will have come out of this, there’s nothing quite like USA racing on Firm to rax one from overseas. Big questions on her for me after niggling problems already.
Deauville landed a huge pot but I suspect that it didn’t take a lot of winning. Still 750000 bucks purse is nice to be taking home.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
July 10, 2016 at 10:16 #1255256Humphrey was 9th Nathan. I was surprised to see him running over a mile and a quarter on firm ground and I have the same concerns for him as Steve C has for Ballydoyle
July 10, 2016 at 13:13 #1255286Just goes to show it doesn’t matter how beautiful a filly looks, it doesn’t mean she is ready to run a big race. She did look lovely last night going up to post.
So much so that I lumped on a wedge. I thank Whiskey for that decision.August 13, 2016 at 22:42 #1259733Aidan and the punters just won’t take the hint.
Ballydoyle and Coolmore ran in the Beverly D at the Arlinton Million meeting but both faded quickly and disappointingly after trying to go the pace with the leaders early.
I was never that taken by Coolmore myself, but after a decent 2yo season and then a 1000 Guineas second, Ballydoyle appears to me to have been very badly placed by Aidan. I said last year that I thought the mile would be her best trip this year and it’s sad to see a Guineas runner up like a fish out of water on greyhound racing tracks at the wrong trip.
I shook my head when I saw Ballydoyle 5/2 Fav for tonight’s race when I looked earlier in the day.
Rank poor placing of these fillies in my opinion.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
August 14, 2016 at 16:24 #1259789Coolmore’s never been rated highly.
Ballydoyle was injured after her 1000 Guineas second, missing her intended target of the Irish Guineas.
First run back in the Prix Diane, didn’t get the best of starts, behind early, had to come wide and in a slowly run race and never nearer than at the finish. Not at all weakening in the final strides so nothing there to say she didn’t stay.
Never went a yard in the Belmont Oaks. Something not right. Certainly didn’t lose through lack of stamina.
Was a little surprised to see her return to America after such a poor run, but stable have other good fillies for other races. May be they were looking to see whether it is worth bringing her back for the Breeders Cup Distaff? Ran a bit better last night, but beaten before the mile pole and shaping as though not fully over whatever ailed her previously.
Hope she’s ok.
