I know the early pace wasn’t strong in the Azzy race, but does anyone else think it significant that Ashley Brook put up a quicker time in the novice race- think of how quickly the no-hoper was struggling versus the cracks in the big race- The performance was of more merit than post-race 33/1 Arkle quotes would suggest.
I wouldn’t back him now but will definitely be on his right side this season. Not aftertiming, but wanted to be against Sporazene as he made two howlers the first day he ran and again came a cropper here- at best he’ll be a slow learner, at worst his confidence might preclude him performing well at the bigger tracks in time to get his eye in for March.
On the Azzy Moscow debate, I have mixed feelings: Is it heresy to suggest that I thought Azzy had quite a hard race the other day- look at his head-carriage between the last two, and wonder was the fall last year a blessing in disguise as it meant one fewer hard race and allowed him to come to a peak more gradually? Winning handicaps under big weights against good horses is never easy. Moscow is a year older, but could have a slight edge in freshness if he has a canter around on Sunday. What price the big match doesn’t happen though? I’d go no bigger than evens.
November 4, 2004 at 04:58 #94356Azertyuiop will not deviate from the Champion Chase route Nicholls has mapped out at present , so any dissention from the ‘ battle ‘ will come on the part of Moscow Flyer. Whether or not this will come down to Jessica Harrington fearing he can’t win , who knows. That sort of thing will become clear over the season , judging on what distance MF tackles pre-Cheltenham.
I would imagine that they’ll meet at least twice though , at Sandown and Cheltenham. I don’t doubt that Moscow will be as good and as quick as ever , but I think something very special has been found in Azertyuiop and he’ll be the one all the two-milers are gunning for.
Going on pure face value , it wasn’t Azertyuiop’s best performance on Tuesday – that would have to be his close second to Isio. But , considering the conditions , it was. I’d say that he was no more than 85% fit , pulled hard early ( due to lack of pace from Edredon Bleu ) , was giving weight away all round and is far from at his best on heavy ground. But he did finish with his ears pricked. For me , that makes it a pretty special effort. I’m sure Joe will correct me in his next insightful post ;)
I’m still waiting for your odds for the CC though Joe. I’ll have every TRF member as a witness to me putting £2k on Azerty now , with you – as you’re so confident
Just as an extra , a TRF member has penned a very interesting article on Moscow Flyer and Azertyuiop , from a breeding point of view , on my website. The site will be going up in dribs and drabs over the next couple of days , but it is well worth a read. The MF , Azerty piece will be up on Thursday afternoon.
November 4, 2004 at 05:48 #94357why did,nt the TRF member post the article on the azertyuiop/moscow flyer thread??
November 4, 2004 at 07:22 #94358I’ve joined the thread late so this might be meaningless but they haven’t got to the bottom of Well Chief yet over fences and Pipe may have written him off in his RP stable tour but they’re delighted with his progress at Pond House. Classic MCP putting punters away. No bold predictions but he’ll shock a few.
The Tingle Creek will be a classic if all the main protagonists make it in one piece.
November 4, 2004 at 11:19 #94359‘Azzy’, ‘Zerty’, ‘Azerty’… how many nicknames does this horse need? If there was an emoticon for ‘cringe’ (maybe there is?) I’d use it now…
The horse is called ‘Azertyuiop’, spelt ‘A-z-e-r-t-y-u-i-o-p’…
November 4, 2004 at 12:31 #94360I don’t know about nicknames nore , I never use them when talking about the horse , but they sure are a hell of a lot easier to type !!
November 4, 2004 at 14:04 #943615/1 ‘Azerty’ – GET ON.
November 4, 2004 at 14:19 #94362Joe,
It’s took me a while to work out whether your posts have been tongue in cheek or that you’re just barking mad.
Now, by not only assuring us that the best 2m chaser we’ve seen in many a year (dual festival winner to boot) WONT win the Champion Chase, you’ve surpassed yourself by offering up an ante post race betting to around 69%.
Mate – you are as mad as a box of frogs. Meant in the nicest possible way of course :)

That ten-grand will really come in useful around March time.

November 4, 2004 at 20:08 #94365Ok, enough, his rival needs a nickname…
[br]How about we call him Mo’F’er?
November 4, 2004 at 20:24 #94366Mozzie? Mo’? ‘scowie? etc. etc.
It has to be said, Azertyuiop shouldn’t be hard to type but when you’re in full flow it can be irritating…

November 5, 2004 at 10:16 #94370Why don’t you just open a phone account with them?
November 5, 2004 at 10:30 #94371Have one her already. Dont particularly want a sterling account. Well not at this moment in time anyway.
It is something I will keep in mind, because I have noticed on quite a few occasions that Corals give very competitive prices.
