One of my only bets of the AW Championships will probably come in this race.
Mountain Bell 5/1
She’s the only mare in the field, but she’s a good stayer and one i think will improve as she’s lightly raced. Each time she raced over shorter, she shaped like 2miles would suit and she proved that at Newcastle in December accounting for Watersmeet who is 7/2 for this.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 29, 2018 at 22:24 #1348442It looks a tight one. Watersmeet was behind Mountain Bell like you say but it may be that Newcastle really doesn’t suit the Johnston horse. They are both around the 10/3 mark this evening and both have live chances. Watersmeet seemed particularly unlucky last year when drawn in the car park and was lit up to get to the front, hindering his chances. He did well to keep on for 2nd though.
The interesting one for sure though is Red Verdon. He has thrived this winter on synthetics and the step up to 2 miles might bring about more improvement. He was ahead of Mountain Bell over 1m4f (she was staying on) but RV was keeping on well enough himself.
The word at the back end of last year was that RV would be aimed at the 2018 Melbourne Cup so this will be a litmus test for sure.Good luck, it’s an intriguing event.
March 29, 2018 at 22:45 #1348444Funny Kid, for me. LTO, when behind Watersmeet, looked a classic French prep run. He conceded a lead rounding for home and stayed on well, not overly knocked about. I think he’s a fair price at 5.00.
March 30, 2018 at 00:38 #1348455Watersmeet all day long for me in this one, he does nothing but try his heart out and he will be hard to pass if bowling along in front as he likes to do, love this horse.
Having an each way on Curbyourenthusiasm at 25/1.
Will also do the Reverse Forecast..Going for Diagnostic in the Fillies and Mares at 2.30, she’s a bit of a Chelmsford specialistic and has never run at Lingfield so hope she takes a liking to it tomorrow and comes home for James Doyle and William Haggas tomorrow.
2.00 ..Watersmeet – Win
2.30 ..Diagnostic – Win
and a grey horse double up
It might be worth putting all James Doyle’s 5 rides into a small Super Yankee tomorrow as he has a full book of decent rides..
2.00: Red Verdon
2.30 Diagnostic
3.05: Gifted Master
4.10: Second Thought
4.40: Victory BondStraight after Lingfield he’s on the plane to Dubai to ride at Meydan.
Hope he’s not to tired to steer Frontiersman home in the Gold Cup
Best of luck to all..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...March 30, 2018 at 03:38 #1348458I’ve backed Mountain Bell as well Jack.
For pretty much the same reasons you fancy her.
March 30, 2018 at 10:24 #1348463Another Mountain Bell backer signing in. 5s is too big, even taking into account my slight worry that Newcastle probably suits her better than Lingfield.
March 30, 2018 at 10:47 #1348464Yeah Chivers its one of the most interesting today for me. That’s interesting re Red Verdon, he is my main worry.
The French one is hard to grasp form wise, though his run with Watersmeet is good form.
I just think Mountain Bell has always shaped as if 2miles was her trip, and the trainer is good with mares that stay well. I agree on the track Kev, i’ve taken her E/w just because the race is a competitive one..
Of the Johnson pair, i actually think Soldier in Action is the overpriced one…

March 30, 2018 at 18:26 #1348540Well done Degaussed
I thought my double was in the bag.
I’ve just finished watching all the action recorded as I was out today and seeing Funny Kid in the paddock he certainly looked race fit, not an ounce of fat on him and what a great day for the French raiders they certainly can power home late, what a treble that was.Was really pleased with Diagnostic Raymo and ‘n’ thank you
and I got a small double in my Super Yankee but could have done with Second Thought to have turned in a profit there. All set for Meydan tomorrow if Frontiersman wins I’ll be over the moon, if Monarch’s Glen a also wins the neighbours will wish they had earplugs…best of luck tomorrow
Jac
