Make for an interesting book as there are plenty of moments and scandal involving pacemakers. You could include Golden Freeze who was scandalously ridden to impede Carvill’s Hill in the Gold Cup, Ms Pitman escaped any slap on the wrist.

I thought it amusing when Sovereign galloped gaily off in front in the Irish Derby to run the legs off Madhmoon….and stayed there, in front of Antony van Dyck.

Two days on and the boys aren’t putting forward an explanation for the poor run, maybe more to it.

Could have been flight/plane related. Maybe the legroom in the Business Class caused some sort of problems.

Not sounding like there is an obvious explanation forthcoming at the moment…..could be it will be filed under ‘he just had a massive off day’

That whole report is a case of say something for the sake of saying something. They were very vocal after the Guineas but pretty tight lipped now.

Okay, let’s assume he would win a weak Irish Champion Stakes (which is rather unlikely to happen) against his stable companions. Where would he go next? To stud or a crack at the Breeders’ Cup Turf?

If true that would kind of rule out the Breeders Cup as I doubt you would want to take him on a boat that far

So basically hes an equine Dennis Bergkamp aka ” the non flying dutchman ” . Great on his day if hes travelled by coach and not fretting about how he gets home .

Yes LD, you’re right about the trip to the US. Most likely he’ll stay on home soil and have his final race at Leopardstown. Or maybe he’s already had his final race. The Lads wouldn’t want to do further damage to the reputation and stud value of a dual Derby winner, I guess.

How did he get to Epsom.

He normally flies his horses over on the morning of the race but the early start for this year’s Derby, plus the likelihood of more traffic due to the rail strike probably meant he had to bring him over the night before. I don’t remember the details though.

It all coincided with the abnormal improvement statement.

One shocking run is forgiveable – and can be classed as an ‘outlier’. Two poor runs out of four this season tells me something’s not right….or there is an issue.

I wouldn’t be sending any mares to him unless there was a reasonable excuse…..

For me – if there is genuinely seemingly nothing wrong with AR, then it has to be a temperament flaw in the horse. Yes, possible the trip over might have something to do with it. But it is interesting the twice he’s disappointed is the twice he’s raced in rear.

As I said before / after the Derby, it may well be he didn’t like being in behind / around horses at Newmarket. Now AR has disappointed again, if not “in behind” then certainly raced in rear both times.
Raced on the outer in mid-div in the Derby and tracked pace in Irish Derby.

Does AR just sulk if racing in rear?

(Was held up when winning the Vertem last year, but was in the stand side group of only three).
