Just to say , a little bird tells me that the pictures are being delayed a bit more, to facilitate the 50 per cent premium players, at home and on course
If you are playing off ATR PICTURES, without SIS . or live course feed , you are at a serious disadvantage ……
Do not do it
Ricky
July 31, 2011 at 10:46 #366663It’s been 7 or 8 seconds from SIS to ATR for at least the past week Ricky – definitely worse than it was.
July 31, 2011 at 11:27 #366668Cheers Irish , hopefully somebody will read this and believe , in a flat race thats more then half a furlong , and in a jump race you could be backing a horse that has already fallen …..or come under pressure ….
The game is gone for ordinary punters , you need to get a level playing field to play , then you have the bent races to contend with!
Caution is required

July 31, 2011 at 12:04 #366670It was ridiculous at Bath the day they had two fallers and also in Ireland, one of the tracks wasn’t too bad mind (just normal delay).
Only know this as have both ATR and SIS in front of me most days.
July 31, 2011 at 17:40 #366700I thought there was also a delay on the SIS feed as well and it was only the Racetech pictures that were in "real time".
This is why you get rooms turned over to Internet players who spend the afternoon with their laptops and mobiles watching everything and appreciating nothing.
July 31, 2011 at 18:12 #366703Blimey Ricky, so what you’re suggesting is that there has been some sort of collusion between ATR and so called ‘Betfair Big Shots’ betting in-running on course, to further the BBS’s advantage?
I feel a little uncomfortable admitting this but to be frank I could give a flying **** about some mug doing his dough on delayed pictures. The fact pictures are delayed, by varying amount has been in the public domain for years? If someone hasn’t taken the basic amount of research to find this out then they, regrettably, get what’s coming to them.
Btw, I would suggest the majority of the very small number of people/accounts paying 50% have probably never watched a horse race in their life
July 31, 2011 at 21:39 #366728The delay has got so bad that it’s affecting my pre-off betting. I’ve had a few bets knocked back as the last couple are loading up on my TV for being too late.
I wonder how much this is costing the industry, with all the turnover from punters running up to the virtual counter at the last second going west.
It’s so bad I’ve stopped watching the races on ATR and simply look at the exchanges in-running prices to see what’s happening!
August 1, 2011 at 10:00 #366773Pete , it matters not whether anybody cares , what’s important is to highlight some daylight robbery , if any mug punter plays in running whilst watching ATR , they are just cannon fodder for the players on course who are 7 seconds ahead of them ….get the picture (pun intended )
Its a scandal .

August 1, 2011 at 10:58 #366782Ricky,
if you believe that At The Races are doing something wrong, instead of complaining on a forum where nothing can be done, try contacting Ofcom.
They have a standard of how many seconds / minutes a broadcast can be delayed before it can no longer be described as "Live".
Of course, once you do contact Ofcom, they will confirm that ATR fall well within that standard and therefore are not breaking any broadcast rules.
The ONLY reason that ATR pictures are delayed as much as they are is because of the transponder they are given by Sky.
To deliver faster pictures would increase the running costs of ATR and that would result in ATR having to go down the subscriber route. And probably having to charge more than RUK do.
If you, or anyone else in forum land, think that ATR deliberately put in a delay to screw up in running betting, you/they are clearly deluded!
As for that "little bird" who told you it was all to do with the Premium Charge on betfair, I can only assume that bird is one of the lunatics on the betfair forum!
August 1, 2011 at 11:48 #366792Deep , good post , points taken
7 seconds delay whatever the reason or circumstances , no blame apportioned , just 7 seconds behind
Explain why punters should play , when shrewdies on course play in real time , and those with SIS are only a second or so behind
I would love to hear your take on this ,
Thanks
Ricky
August 1, 2011 at 12:44 #366798Unfortunately where money and betting is concerned whichever way you turn corruption will not be far away. If it was a simple as a transponder I would imagine ATR would use this explanation quite freely rather than not all and ignore all requests from their viewers and customers for an explanation on the issue.
A few years ago when it was found that quicker pictures were available via the red button this was quickly put a stop to when complaints were made by the right people. As careful eugene states, if a normal Betfair punter on 5% has an even grand with a track player on 60%, if the normal Betfair punter wins Betfair get 50 quid, if the track player wins Betfair get £600. Hope this helps.
August 2, 2011 at 11:01 #366889Ricky,
The ONLY reason that ATR pictures are delayed as much as they are is because of the transponder they are given by Sky.
You think it might be Digger Murdoch trying to recoup his losses!
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I crawled on six crooked highwaysAugust 2, 2011 at 11:31 #366891It could be the increase in delay is related to the rollout of HD scanner units.
Although neither ATR or RUK currently broadcast in HD the capability is now in place and if the scanners are uplinking HD pictures back to the broadcast centre then the time lag will be increased due to the greater bandwidth.
It may not be the definitive answer but it is a viable (non conspiracy theory) explanation.
August 2, 2011 at 15:16 #366907The delay is artificial and palpably related to in-running betting. Surely nobody could seriously dispute this.
The initial extra delay was re-instated the day
after
they changed transponders, when they realised that they’d hadn’t tacked on the extra artifical delay.
The further delay was added on the day premium charge 3 was introduced.
If anyone here thinks that’s coincidence, given past form, then I don’t know what to say.
None of the explanations ATR have given for the delay held any water (I was told once that it related to 10 miles of fibre optic cables in their office – it must take so long to navigate those…at the speed of light ) and they appear to have given up making excuses now.
August 2, 2011 at 18:44 #366920I see the clock has now disappeared from my ATR screen. Maybe that’s a transponder issue
It’s like being in a casino with no clocks and all the windows blacked out. You’re not supposed to have any inclination of what’s happening in the real world as you watch the replays of races already run.
August 2, 2011 at 20:00 #366927Well done Glen , nail on head …..in running with ATR is a cash machine for the players on course , but dont listen , just lose
Market forces will decide in the end , punters will stop playing eventually and walk away or join the long queue for the roulette machines….
Will our leaders get involved …as John Wayne would say …to hell they will …..
Ricky
August 2, 2011 at 20:07 #366929The racecourses could try and turn this to their advantage by increasing the size of their on-course trading rooms.
