A very very interesting name in the entries in Saldier who hacked up back on the flat recently

Id be very interested in him if he runs in this or the similar handicap later in the week

The racing post app though has ryan Moore jocked up on another mullins horse in rayapour though I have no idea how accurate that is at this early stage

(Edit i see saldier is also in the copper horse handicap over 1m6f which would surely suit him better)

As I find is often the case my figures for the staying handicap are very tight. Ability to see out the extreme trip at a stiff track on the going probably has a bigger bearing on the result that pure form. On this occasion there are three horses with no recent flat form and two them, Rayapour and M C Muldoon, that would be in with a clear shout and head the market.

    Top figures are as follows:

    111 Elysian Flame
    111 Golden Rules
    110 Solo Saxophone

    108 Trumpet Man
    108 Untold Story
    108 Couer De Lion
    107 Lostwithiel

That’s three lengths between seven over two and a half miles. Two for me are Elysian Flame (general 14/1, 16/1 in a place) and Golden Rules (14/1 with Bet 365, best 8/1 elsewhere), the former with soldid stayinf form and the latter lightly raced with promise of better.

    Cracking race this.

I played early here with Cape Gentleman and Dalton Highway.

Both very high standard when on form, but consistency not their strong suit.

Cape Gentleman was highly impressive in The Irish Cesarewitch, and no surprise to see Rachel Blackmore making the headlines here. Dalton was just too big a price, and I’m very very hopeful/confident he can make the seven.

The Mullins runners speak for themselves, while at a mad mad price, I could see Island Brave run well.

Rayapour has drifted since Ryan Moore got the leg up on M C Muldoon
Hoping that Kirby can pick him up and carry him home.

Another masterclass from Moore. And yes – I am talking through my pocket! At least I was on each way…

Fair play to Ian Williams, much made about how well Mullins does in this race but went under the radar a bit that Williams had the 1st and 3rd a couple of years ago and is very underrated with his stayers on the flat.

Wasn’t the greatest of rides by Moore but you’re a hostage to fortune in these handicaps on the round course and you always have to take that into consideration when placing your bets another couple of yards and we’d be saying what a great ride it was, at least he got MC Muldoon into contention, I thought the ride on Cape Gentleman was as bad if not worse to be honest.

“Another couple of yards and we’d be saying what a great ride it was”.

Sorry to disagree TinMan but I would not have said that. It would have been a case of him getting out of jail. I said to myself when they turned for home he was too far back for comfort and so it proved. If he had won by a short head on a horse that travelled over everything, it would still have been a moderate ride.

It is frustrating because Moore knows he should have won. He surely would have if he had been a length or two closer to the pace. He made himself a hostage to fortune.

Agree Rachael’s ride was not great either.
