No more Yeats but O’Brein has the winner in this race that is Age Of Aquaruis. been going on about him being the stayer for last 5months he will win the cup
June 8, 2010 at 23:26 #299590I also believe Age Of Aquarius can do the bizz. One thing that does worry me though is the form of the Ballydoyle horses. Manifest is an obvious danger but the biggest challenge could come from ASK!
June 9, 2010 at 00:11 #299595Don’t let Darley Sun’s disappointing run put you off. The Henry II Stakes is THE race to follow when it comes to the Gold Cup. Put the last 5 runnings to one side – the Henry II was responsible for 7 of the 9 winners. 1189321 the form figures of the winners. Bin Suroor has a marvellous record in this race and Darley Sun’s a huge price. Can’t have Akmal at any price. The Yorkshire Cup’s been a Gold Cup graveyard the past decade. Since Royal Rebel in 2001, Yorkshire Cup runners are 0-2-22, Geordieland being the only one who placed.
June 9, 2010 at 10:53 #299624I was on Saptapadi in that race and I’ll be with him again in the Gold Cup. Full brother to a tried and tested stayer and ran brilliantly in that race considering he was ridden to get the trip, I think he has a good chance and believe he will stay. I just hope he’s ridden with confidence
June 9, 2010 at 11:42 #299629Class acts in the race are
Ask
and
Purple Moon
They have high class Group 1 and 2 form all over the show at 12f-14f. Ask has won a Group 1 over 2m and Purple Moon was a close 2nd in the 07 Melbourne Cup.
Worth waiting with Ask given the vague "11th hour" comment from Stoute, and there is the question of winning this first time out, but then his record fresh is excellent.
How Purple Moon is 10 times the price of Manifest is bizarre. Still coming back from a lay-off, he has never run well off a slow/muddling pace that involves a sprint finish – exactly the conditions at York, where the race turned into a sprint, hence the visual impressiveness of Manifest’s win. Off a stronger pace over a longer distance, Purple Moon’s class may well come through to reverse that form.

Are you confident? It looks like he needs some distance if he’s going to get past a rival this year.
June 9, 2010 at 23:37 #299754I would consider Montaff for an e/w if he was sent for this. I liked his run at ascot earlier this year where on ground too quicker he finished one paced next to quicker finishers after looking like he may win at one point. Think he’s a styrong staying type…
June 14, 2010 at 20:51 #300595I think Manifest is the best bet of the meeting. He is still very unexposed (as you could say about a few) and though his price is not great, I think he’ll outstay the others.

June 15, 2010 at 15:38 #300871Bannaby – Some on here may remember I was raving about this horse for the Gold Cup last year, alas he picked up a small injury a couple of weeks before the race and didn’t run and he’s had a low key prepartion for the racet his year. Trained in Spain by top trainer Mauricio Delcher-Sanchez (record in Group 1’s 3 from 4) he won the Group 1 Prix Du Cadran on Arc weekend in 2008, the only other Group 1 in Europe run over the Gold Cup distance of 2 1/2m. He then went on to finish a 2 length 4th to Yeats in a 2m Group 1 later that October. He was lightly raced in 2009 running over 14-16f in group and listed races having previously won a 10f conditions race in Madrid by 4 lengths. Generally speaking he runs on well in his races over too short a distance and was successful in his prep race over 1m 7f at Madrid last month – he’s a class apart in Spain and contested a listed race at Saint-Cloud over 2m when finishing runner-up to Blek (good form ties in with Kite Wood – allowed an easy lead LTO and Kasbah Bliss). Bannaby beat Kasbah Bliss in the 2008 Cadran and the only reason he’s as big as he is is because he’s trained in Spain. IMO the further he goes the better he is.
June 15, 2010 at 17:53 #300910I second the ew punt on Montaff – 100/1 is a huge price for a horse that has contested some of the top races in the past few years inc. the Derby (albeit last!) – I think this distance will suit as he hasn’t got much of a turn of foot but is stamina laden, staying on over a probable inadequate 2m last time. The slightly easier ground is a plus too as his best form is on softer – this is a classy race but well worth a speculative ew.
June 15, 2010 at 18:14 #300918I like the look of Darley Sun, certainly at the price he’s at. Impressive in the Cesarewitch last year, and I think he can come good.

So don't run, just like the others always do

Arg, but that said, I like the looks of Bannaby – he certainly fits in with most of the trends. Maybe I’ll split the bet?

June 16, 2010 at 18:02 #301221Ask is a class above these imo, and will take all the beating. Age Of Aquarius to follow him home perhaps.

Was gonna have a go at Ask, but first time up and fast ground..wouldn’t blame him for feeling it down the straight
Purple Moon and Bannaby e/w for me, gl
June 16, 2010 at 20:13 #301249It’ll take a good performance from PM to reverse form with Manifest in the Yorkshire Cup (beaten 8 lengths)……Manifest is certainly on the up but inexperience may show against some seasoned stayers.
I wouldn’t worry about the long lay off with Ask, he won the aforementioned racr in 2009, a Group 3 at Sandown in 2008 and and the Ormonde in 2007 all first time out, which in fact shows he’s best when fresh. 6/1 is a generous price for such a class horse.June 16, 2010 at 20:33 #301259I think Manifest is the best bet of the meeting. He is still very unexposed (as you could say about a few) and though his price is not great
If his price isn’t great how can he be the bet of the meeting?
