I fancy Coltrane to be the better over the duration of the season but I highly doubt today is the target and with Trueshan having match-fitness I’d probably side with the favourite in a placepot, though doubt I’d be backing him individually at odds of 10/11 on good ground.
El Habeeb 11/2 could be an improver so definitely one to watch out for, the horse has been well supported in the market too.
I guess it’d also be foolish to dismiss Rajinsky 8/1 who beat Trueshan when the favourite was making its comeback last month at Nottingham.
May 3, 2023 at 14:08 #1646412I’ll only have eyes for my beloved Wise Eagle! I can’t quite believe he’s running in it.

May 3, 2023 at 15:43 #1646421Looks like it’s time to retire Trueshan- his heart clearly isn’t in it any more. That race on firm ground at Goodwood, where he palpably didn’t let himself down, has obviously left its mark.
Maybe they could attempt to freshen him up over the summer for one last hurrah at Champions Day?
May 3, 2023 at 15:53 #1646423This is why trainers like Nicky Henderson don’t cave in to public/media pressure to run their horses when not 100% happy with the ground.

What was the last Group 1 winner to run over hurdles? There must have been one but I have gone blank.
May 3, 2023 at 17:01 #1646427He’s keen enough on the flat- don’t think he’d settle at all over hurdles.
Any Group One winners since Royal Gait and Alderbrook to go over hurdles?
May 3, 2023 at 17:23 #1646430Cork – Princess Zoe, won this race last year too!
May 3, 2023 at 17:38 #1646433Good shouts from Ben and from Glad about Royal Gait. I should have remembered him because I backed him for the Champion Hurdle.
Did Alderbrook win a Group 1? He certainly won a Group 2 but I am not sure he won one at the top level.
May 3, 2023 at 17:43 #1646434Just remembered Wicklow Brave won the Irish St Leger for Willie Mullins but that was after he had won over hurdles. He then went novice chasing.
May 3, 2023 at 18:10 #1646444Khan – latterly trained by Milton Harris won the 2018 Gp1 Preis von Europa; and won a few low grade hurdles before retiring to stud in France.
Alderbrook was 2nd in the Gp1 Prix Ganay 6 weeks after winning the Champion Hurdle; beating Freedom Cry, Hernando et al.
And Royal Gait who won the Prix Royal Oak, Prix du Cadran and DSQ in The Gold Cup.
And classic winner, Moonax had a couple of unsuccessful attempts over hurdles in 1996/97 season.
