I know u like to be alittle controversial FOf but what on earth are you on about?!

Even if he doesnt win, i cannot see any reason at all why he cant be competitive in the arkle..at the very least. He might well destroy them

    what has he done wrong?!

He did nothing wrong but 7/2 fav for the Arkle is a joke. You will go skint very quick backing horses who win those kind of races early in the season.

Straw Bear was never going which resulted in a virtual walk over for a decent horse. Come March I doubt if he will even be favourite.

He’s a PN horse and the bookies would make a donkey of his Fav for the Arkle if it won a beginners chase at Cartmel.

All week they had Rippling Ring in at 4/1 2nd fav for the Greatwood. Who knows how may punters backed that thing AP and where does he finished?….exactly where any good judge though he would.

This is not personal in any shape or form but fools and their money!!! For Pete’s sake let a few of the other good horses who will be going chasing get a foot over the first fence before saying this one is past the post.

    Fists,
Stating that he is too short in the betting is not the same as “Tell you what id Tatenen wins the Arkle I will give uop racing……..absolutely no way is he an Arkle horse”

I really thought Tatenen would struggle on that ground yesterday as a four year old….pity he didn’t really have any competition; very disappointed with Straw Bear, thought he’d love the ground, but hadn’t seen how poor his jumping had been at Exeter.

A very likable performance from Tatenen.

He jumped well and I always like a horse with experience of the Cheltenham fences in the Arkle. Tidal Bay, My Way De Solzen and Azertyuiop all won here prior to Arkle glory.

Tidal Bay and MWDS both held form over further than two miles as hurdlers and Voy Por Ustedes has since won over two and a half and will tackle the King George over three miles.

Kicking King ran second to Well Chief before winning a Gold Cup the following season.

I think the race suits a horse with form over further than two miles and I believe Tatenen has won twice over two miles-two at Auteuil in testing conditions.

His age and lack of experience won’t be a problem. As Master Minded proved last season in the QM, if you’re good enough, you’re experienced enough.

My only concern is that his jumping will be tested like never before in the Arkle, a rough race where he will find plenty of horses applying pressure. He’ll be a sitting duck for any horse with a turn of foot.

Tidal Bay benefitted from clouting a few before The Festival and I hope Tatenen is given a proper race before March. I wouldn’t be in a rush to take such a short price about him, especially when his rivals haven’t played their cards yet.

A nice prospect, but worth opposing at that price.

I thought Kalahari King was impressive at Leicester this afternoon, though I still have him some way behind both I’msingingtheblues (after a drastic re-evaluation of his defeat to Briareus) and Tatenen.

I’d be interested to know if Noel Meade is considering dropping Aran Concerto back in trip.

Been my choice for the race since day one so that was very pleasing. I backed this horse EW for Chelters last season for immediatlly after he won at lowly Mussleburgh. I really thought I had done my cash as he went wrong shortly afterwards. He ran completely lifeless race behind Rippling Ring and Ferdy said the horse just wasn’t himself.

There wasn’t a coin for him when he was beaten at Newcastle in a race he would have trotted up in if he had been 100% but that was probably due to the horse having been let down a bit. He ran a big race at Chelteham to finish 4th but for me he still looked weak whan push came to shove. 4 to 5 Weeks later they ran him at Ayr in the Scottish Champion Hurdle where he supposidly blew up 2 out.Whatever the excuse it seemed to put him spot on as 4 days later he won the Aon hurdle at Punchestown.

His form for me when you consider everything is as good if not better than Tatenen. Whether others agree with me or not depends on what they think of Franchoek but personally I never thought much of that form.

To me the price of the PN horse is an insult to human intellegence. Kalahari King was 25/1 before Kelso and 20/1 after. He is still nearly 4 times the odds of Tatenham who is a lovely horse but has however beaten absolutely nothing in his career to date. Having backed KK at the longer odds EW I would rather be me than some poor sod who has taken 7/2 about an unproven PN horse.

    Time will tell.

Kalahari King was impressive yesterday but there are a couple of issues for me.

    1) What did he beat? – Nicky Henderson’s mare Shatabdi may have been getting a lot of weight but she is a horse who’s best hurdles form was over 2 1/2 miles on soft ground. A good ground 2 miles was never going to be in her favour, she ran a blinder. Crocodiles Rock for me is a horse that has never lived up to his initial reputation. He’s a bit of an "avoider" for me trained by Johnjo so that possibly explains it.

    2) To be seen at his absolute best Kalahari King needs decent ground, he’s not that likely to get that at Cheltenham in March.

    3) His overall chase form so far isn’t good enough to be winning an Arkle though I expect he is capable of leaving that form behind.

    I’d say 12/1 / 14/1 is about right.

    Eh?

Which Cheltenham Festivals have you been watching for the last ten years?

Exactly grassy – he’ll get the perfect ground ay Chelts. ie Good to Soft. But the ground wouldn’t worry me about this horse anyway, he has a real place chance for the Arkle.

Kalahari King’s hurdle form may well be on a par with Tatenen’s Fists, but there is certainly no comparison in what each have already achieved over fences.

As I have said, Kalahari King was impressive at Leicester yesterday, but despite the weight he was conceding to the runner-up he still only beat a (fairly) small mare making her chasing debut and seasonal appearance. Crocodile Rock, who I actually backed, jumped appallingly in rear and was never in the race, so the likes of Iffy and Presentandcorrect have to be used to evaluate the form. Whether it was a cruise or not, they don’t rank quite as highly as Straw Bear (his second to Sir Harry Ormesher hasn’t worked out all that badly, with Or Bleu running to a mark in the 120s since and Gauvain having chased home Free World).

Tatenen is, incredibly, only a four-year-old, but has the physical presence of an absolute monster. In two years time he will be hellishly good, but even as things stand it will take a damn smart performance to beat him. He jumped impeccably on Sunday, cantering to a distance (or best part of) victory over an otherwise high-class hurdler. He goes on any ground, can make his own running if required and has the potential, for me, to reach the heights of Master Minded and Kauto Star.

Kalahari King on the other hand looks to need a strong pace and to be unleashed extremely late in a race, something that I wouldn’t fancy betting on at Cheltenham. If he beats Tatenen in the Arkle, or indeed anywhere else, I’ll be astounded.
