….No Refund clause?
Utterly shameless if they are.
Now running an hour and a half late.

Is he still being treated on course or has he been loaded onto ambulance, heard was sedated as he went through rails and takes time to come round. I’d rather the horse be ok

June 9, 2022 at 20:21 #1601419Yes, of course horse welfare is paramount – that’s not in dispute.
My point is they could easily have simply abandoned the meeting, but they seem desperate to stage the 6.35, almost two hours late, because if it’s run it releases the racecourse from an obligation to give a refund.

June 9, 2022 at 20:33 #1601421Needless to say I’m glad the horse is ok.
Yes, there are three more races left to run, but I’m told that now they’ve run the first three races they can abandon the rest of the card without giving racegoers a refund.
If they do that, that’s got nothing to do with equine welfare and everything to do with cynical greed.
To be fair, they are currently saying only the last race – the bumper – will be abandoned, but it’s sunset in 45 minutes and they still have two races over obstacles left to run.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 9, 2022 at 23:00 #160143390% of the Uttoxeter crowd will have been there tonight for the after-race DJ so as long as that went ahead and the bars stayed open they wouldn’t care about the abandoned races.
June 9, 2022 at 23:53 #1601437Number of abandoned races ÷ number of scheduled races x entry fee = total refund.
Is that really too much to ask?
June 10, 2022 at 00:24 #1601439Thursday: Uttoxeter
Uttoxeter’s seven-race evening card was heavily disrupted after an incident with a faller in the second contest caused a 105-minute delay and forced the final two races of the meeting to be abandoned.
The 6-4 favourite Butler’s Brief fell at the fourth-last in the 3m novice handicap chase, with the Alastair Ralph-trained seven-year-old subsequently running loose and becoming trapped in the third-last fence.
Vets were required to sedate Butler’s Brief and the third race, which had been due off at 6.35pm, was delayed while he was safely removed and transported away from the ditch.
The action did not get back underway until 8.20pm with officials initially planning to stage four of the five remaining races with the closing bumper abandoned.
But after Al Roc won the heavily delayed 2m4f handicap chase, the penultimate 2m4f handicap hurdle was also shelved with time and daylight running out.
The racecourse confirmed via its twitter account that connections of the horses who missed out as well as racegoers would be contacted on Friday morning in response to the reduced card.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.

That’s a very good point – but I do think Richard’s refund model seems eminently fair and reasonable.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 10, 2022 at 07:28 #1601450They will say such a scheme costs too much to administer or some such excuse.
A similar thing happens in cricket. If less than a stipulated amount of overs is bowled, there is a full refund. If the stipulated amount is reached: bad luck.
This actually occurred in last week’s Test match. The crowd on Sunday got a full refund. I am surprised the MCC did not send a message out to Joe Root to delay hitting the winning runs for another over, when no refund would have been due!
June 10, 2022 at 07:39 #1601451I do realise that a course’s costs are not directly proportional to the number of races run. You would probably find that if one or two races were abandoned, many wouldn’t bother claiming the few pounds they were due however.
Presumably, any of these booking fees or whatever they call them don’t form part of the refund calculation so we can look forward to £1 entry*.
*booking fee £24
