Apologies if this has already been done to death on this forum (my visits can be sporadic these days). I’ve just been tweeting about this. Is there ANYWHERE I can get even a live audio of the Arc or anything, considering that this year it’s not even being televised on any terrestrial channel?

I only have a crappy FreeSat box so I don’t even have access to ATR or RUK (not that I’d pay subscription to the latter anyway). Is there anywhere online I could find coverage?

It’s depressing enough these days with half my old favourite meetings no longer televised, making it even harder to keep on top of the racing, let alone no Arc.

Timeform radio or Sportinglife (others are available as most bookies have audio feeds online)

Thanks wit. Yes it will be on in the bookies but to be honest I don’t fancy hanging out on my own in some dodgy bookies in Battersea to watch the race – I’ll take the audio followed by replay.

It said it was free on Freeview but this was utter twaddle as i could not get it after faffing about swapping wires from one thing to another, in the end i heard some appalling Off Tube commentary on Timeform Radio and while they do a good show the call was like it was some bloke in a small room looking at the TV and his card at the same time, I could have done a better job myself i bet.

I saw in RP that it was on Freeview. When I went to the appropriate channel it did seem to be loading up, but then it said that my TV did not have an internet connection! What’s that all about?
I know I’m not much cop with a computer but it was too close to the racetime to start trying to faff about. I’ll have to get clued up in advance in future :(

RUK on Freeview is effectively a tarted up on-line offering for which you need a TV or box which is connected to the internet – plus an unlimited broadband package really helps.

My Freesat box has a similar thing which means I could watch IPlayer, 4-OD etc directly on the TV if I was so inclined – so to say RUK is available on Freeview isn’t strictly true.

I presume it is done as there is, as far as I understand, no mechanism to encrypt / decode transmissions on Freview.

‘Available on Freeview’ was misleading, unless you had the additional gubbins mentioned by Paul

    It was certainly Free

    to

view on RUK satellite channel 432 but you do need a minidish for that of course

    Well done Claude Charlet!

That doesn’t sound like anything TFR would usually use, so I wonder if there were any contractual issues that prevented the use of the Racetech or Equida feed.

Thanks for the info Paul, I don’t think I’ll bother with that one. Just have to watch the replays if and when they are available. :)

I watched the race on my TV and at "full screen" the picture quality wasn’t all that good.

Still, as it was free I really don’t have the right to moan.

Just watching a recording of Racing UK’s Arc day coverage.

White-haired and bespectacled French studio expert Claude Charlet is an absolute hoot.

He sounds like a cross between Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau and something out of Allo Allo. Throw in a bit of ze how-you-say Bruce Forsyth doing his haw-he-haw-he-haw French accent impressions and you can’t go far wrong.

Mark Johnson, taking a break from his Mr Shouty Man duties for the X Factor and wearing the world’s biggest sports jacket, seemed to do a good job anchoring the programme.
