One more topic for the day.
Do you think Andrew Balding (sorry to pick on him- I know there were others but he did stick his head above the parapet somewhat)
A) had a very good point or
B) chucked his teddies out the pram and left 4 youngsters in the lurch, the aul’ Scrooge.I’m inclined to think B), but I know nothing about the finances of running a yard and I know that lots of racing businesses go to the wall so I may be a clueless armchair social justice warrior with no grasp of the practicalities of the situation and the law of unintended consequences.
December 19, 2019 at 18:53 #1477569I still haven’t come to a proper conclusion over it.
The jockeys seem happy about it but if it stops the trainers using them as much will they suffer in the long run.
The only jockeys I’ve heard speak about were both apprentice champions but what of those who are further down the pecking order and what affect it might have on them. ie they won’t be winning as much prize money but now will have to pay their own expenses.
I think it’s a good thing they are getting looked out for but not sure it will suit someCharles Darwin to conquer the World

Good point. They do get to keep more of the riding fees as well mind you.
December 19, 2019 at 20:30 #1477579They do but they may not get as many rides as previous under the old system from what I can gather as what some trainers were saying which may/will stunt their progress
