Has the connection between AP and JP McNamara been, or in the process of being, severed? With the number of JP’s horses running today, none with AP riding, does this indicate that he is now content to be second jockey at Hendersons and, looking at Leopardstown tomorrow, possibly Nichols.
I fully appreciate it if he has, as some of horses that JP owns these days is dire. If so, seems that it is unfortunate for some of the younger jockeys connected to the two yards
Any thoughts
January 24, 2010 at 11:25 #271781Quantity over quality seems to be the order of the day at JP Mc’s. If i were him, i’d cut out a lot of the lesser purchases, and trying going for the decent horses at a higher price. The again, would a quality of quantity ethos make it harder for AP to be champion jockey ?
January 24, 2010 at 11:53 #271784JP is a real gentleman and ultra loyal too but he also loves his horses, I don’t think he’d be that happy seeing any of them on the receiving end of one of Macoy’s trashings to win some tin pot race at Fakenham for instance….no disrespect to Fakenham it was the first little track that came to mind.
AP get’s some winners that few other jockeys would win on… no argument ….but I wouldn’t want him on one I owned and I very rarely back one he’s on.January 24, 2010 at 12:05 #271792On a different note does anyone agree that AP isn’t riding as well as he has done? Not for the first time this season he drew a blank at Ascot yesterday, obviously this may also have to do with the poor form of the trainer, but this does seem to be happening more and more and I’m far happier punting on Ruby Walsh to keep me winning than AP.

This is nothing new. Sorry to keep making the same point but he based his reputation riding from the front but he doesn’t do that any longer. He is an ordinary hold-up jockey who now rarely makes a difference on the big occasion. My threads go back several years asking questions about his Cheltenham record. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn’t mess things up on Quantativeeasing this year.
January 25, 2010 at 15:02 #272026It amazes me how people want to knock the likes of McCoy, Walsh and Johnson. Yes they don’t win on them all, but who does? And the fact is, they don’t set the prices of the horses they ride. Some days they will have a great looking book of rides and some days it won’t happen for them, but that’s racing. He’ll ride a treble or 4 timer again soon and everybody will be singing his praises again.
January 25, 2010 at 15:26 #272031I like McCoy. Something puzzles me though with regards to him and Bincular. Something, and i don’t know what it is, tells me that perhaps he isn’t suited to Binocular. I’m beginning to think it ain’t a good combination. I don’t think it was his best ever ride at last years festival, and whilst the horse still has a bit to find before the festival, i wonder if he’d have a better chance of winning with someone else on board ?

I haven’t read that much adverse comment on here about Walsh and Johnson. No doubt McCoy will soon rack up another three at Plumpton or the like but increasingly it is not happening on the days that matter most.
January 25, 2010 at 20:23 #272067I’ve got a theory with McCoy – back him on hurdlers but not chasers.
Yet again a sound jumper jumped appalling with the man on board, namely Will Be Done at Ascot. I should have known better.

January 25, 2010 at 20:34 #272071It always surprises me that he does so well riding Henrietta Knights’ horses; seems a strange combination, with the trainer being so protective of her charges and McCoy being such a ‘strong’ jockey. Seems to work, though.
