I didn’t even watch the Arc for goodness sake…..
ewww yuck
Disgusting
I can’t understand it…?…maybe i am turning away from the 4 legged animal or is it the dross day to day that is making me think the big race is just another race.
Anyone ever suffered from this illness?
October 4, 2010 at 16:24 #320903Absolute bollox. Not even quality bollox.
October 4, 2010 at 17:09 #320910Stop backing everything that moves and you might rekindle your lost love for the game.
October 4, 2010 at 17:13 #320912I haven’t backed a horse since since….i dont know when.
I just have lost all interest in the flat. I seem to be just willing the Jumps back. I used to be a big flat fan but this season has just left me cold. Very COLD!!!!!!!

Probably your time of life. It’s been a superbly engrossing Flat Season, with a simply marvellous Arc day as icing on the cake.
Try stopping watching completely, and see whether you get withdrawal symptoms.
Or better still get out your old Escalado box, turn your own handle, provide your own commentary, and see whether that reignites the passion.

Season for the older horses hasn’t been great at all. Fame and Glory, Rip Van Winkle and St Nicholas abbey have all flopped and disappointed so far.
Workforce got a lowly 128 for winning the Arc which was Fame and Glory’s rating before the race which in hardly excting.
Canford Cliffs has stolen the show in my book.
I’m looking forward to the jumps but before that think on the bright side
Coming up we got Frankel V Saamidd, Midday and Goldikova and the great Zenyatta still to come.
If that lot don’t give you a buzz Wallace try invading England again
October 4, 2010 at 17:47 #320918Take a break from racing for say a month.
Read a few old books on racing .
Go racing either to the course that got you hooked or to a big race day.

Good idea. I’d suggest
Men and Horses I Have Known
by George Lambton (paperback available 2nd hand on Amazon). Does wonders for me…
October 4, 2010 at 17:59 #320920Not me. Loving every minute of it. Autumn is my favourite time of year for the flat and this backend promises to be terrific.
October 4, 2010 at 18:21 #320922I do sometimes get not really fed up or bored with racing but need to take a break from it to recharge my batteries and have not been racing since going to the St Leger but will be back next Friday and Saturday at Cheltenham to start my jumps season.
To much racing can drive you round the bend so while racing is still my main hobby i think its important to get a hobby within a hobby if you get my meaning.
The past few weeks i have been going to football matches and enjoying it very much, two of the games where Stockport v Shrewsbury and Bury v Hereford United of whom i have no support to any team but enjoyed visiting the lower leagues to see old style grounds and some of the most loyal fans you will see.
It is important to take a break from the sport once in a while to keep you sane.
October 4, 2010 at 18:33 #320924Not sure how the flat guys feel about things, but for me the autumn just starts all the excitement for me. jumps racing starts creeping into action over the next few weeks and surely the recent rain is only going to help things and get some of the nice prospects out. How many days till the festival???

Come again, we are 12 odd days from possibly the best Dewhurst in the last 40 years, if they all get there the racing world will be holding its breath
Around a month to go to the Breeders Cup as well

I think you answered the question yourself. I take very little notice of the dross racing during the week so I’m always relatively fresh for the weekend. At it’s best horse racing is the best sport in the world and anyone getting sick of it must be taking too much of it in.

Wait till Jumps season comes in, cheap horses, boring silks, horrible weather, distances you could fall asleep half way through, enormous fatals list, injured jockey after injured jockey, same horses, same names, through the form book away, horses winning by 40l etc, no stud prospects, poor prize money etc.
I feel sick of it already, just the thought.
Bring on 2011 Guineas! proper stuff
October 4, 2010 at 23:40 #320946Wallace,
There are often reasons why I feel that way.
One is when going through a bad run of betting. Does not matter how many bets I’m having. If I’m not winning enough times or making a profit that month, it begins to get me down. Doesn’t make it any easier when a loudmouth shouting from the rooftops about how he won a packet and how the winner was so obvious. Everyone goes through a losing run, even TAPK.
I find it easier to have saver bets as well as main bets. This generates more winners (all be it not winning much) and helps confidence. The other is dross racing makes me immune to quality racing. With two of the best ever two year olds, Frankel and Dream Ahead. One of the best ever four year olds Harbinger. A Derby winner going on to Arc victory. Another exceptional three year old performance by Cape Blanco. One of the best quality groups of milers for years, Goldicova, Canford Cliffs, Makfi, Rip Van Winkle, Poet’s Voice etc. We should be loving this Classic Flat year.
I don’t bother watching the poor meetings these days. Certainly won’t bother studying a class 6 race to have a bet. Do have RUK and ATR on in the background, just incase something happens. Also believe going racing helps enthusiasm. If things are very bad, give it a complete break for a couple of weeks.
