    May not be the right thread to ask this question, but why did Sandy Barclay go from being a top rider to virtual nobody so quickly. After Geoff Lewis took over the Murless stable job, Barclay just seemed to fade out. I know he came back and rode with some success some years later but drfited away again. Weight? Drink?

    First I’d heard about Taffy Thomas – are you sure>?

    I’m so terribly sorry, you’re quite right I got it wrong, it was Tony Murray who died, so sincere apologies to Taffy and his family for sending him over rather prematurely. Alzheimers must be setting in :roll:

    I’m not sure now which one of them rode that winner at Ascot either now…lol!

    I was a bit worried there, I had a beer with him about ten days ago!

    Yep,
    Des Cullen, Known as the "Pocket Hercules" He had very short legs in proportion to his body and was a good looking guy.
    Does anyone remember Alec Russell or my nephew Kevin Willey who rode a lot of winners as an apprentice in the 1970,s Notably
    "MY DAD TOM" and "SWIFT PALM"

    from Keith Lewis (LRT driver 1970-74)

    Re; Robert Edmondson;

    In my previous existence as a horsebox driver Robert would often ride in the box to race meetings along with another lad who became a champion apprentice David Dineley (Known as "Irish after Dermot Kelly who was on The Arthur Haynes Show)
    This was when Paul Cole was just starting out at Folly Road.
    I am starting to feel really old.
    From Keith Lewis.

    Does anyone know what happened to Dineley. I remember thinking that he was one of the best apprentices that I had seen, and thought that he had a really bright future.

    Tim Sprake was badly injured in a car crash I believe, that pretty much ended his rising career.

    Remember most of them but interesting about Tyrone Williams . His dad was Lennie the Lion Williams who was a top class boxer. He fought Frankie Taylor in a championship bout in the fifties I think. Frankie went on to be a top sports reporter
