Anyone live near Ascot that can give us an update on the weather?
Mark
Value Is EverythingJune 20, 2008 at 22:00 #169544No rain yet here, but I suspect others could be even more helpful than I!
June 20, 2008 at 22:09 #169547Hang on, I’ll have a look.
Nope, no rain here.
June 20, 2008 at 22:22 #169552There’s a very wet forecast overnight for London and the saaf east. Talk locally has been of around half an inch.
Rain should pulse in around 2am-ish, which is a bit of a pity for Mrs Column, as she’s on a hillside above Hitchin awaiting the solstice two hours after that. Ah well, she has booze, ciggies and cake. Accentuate the positive.
If that forecast is accurate, at least the rain will have started long enough before racing to have got in the ground a bit – no danger, then, I wouldn’t have thought, of the surface being too slippery.

June 20, 2008 at 22:23 #169553Nor here.
Perhaps an Oxford person could carry on the chase ????
June 21, 2008 at 07:20 #169575Steady rain overnight – very light drizzle at present.
Regards – Matron
June 21, 2008 at 09:23 #169585At the moment there is a very light drizzle – more a light mist.
I am trying to track down Chris Stickles for an official update but those who have walked the course say what precipitation there has been does not seem to have got into the ground.
I will update again when I get an official update.
June 21, 2008 at 09:43 #169588it is rather damp on the nw kent/se london borders – i would say the back lawn is good to soft all over and would cut up something terrible after even just one race – hope this helps
June 21, 2008 at 10:26 #169592I have the “official” word from Mr Stickels
“It started raining at about 4:30AM and we have had 4mm now.
“The rain has not really got into the ground yet so I have left the going description the same at the moment but if the rain continues it will start getting in.
“The rain will help. The rain was due to clear away and it should be a nice afternoon.”[/color:28iws98r]
For info there has been no overnight watering.
The current weather (10:25) is it is a very fine misty drizzle

June 21, 2008 at 10:55 #169601I have just read on another forum that Lucarno is a non-runner, so that would suggest that the rain hasn’t had much effect.
Colin
June 21, 2008 at 11:00 #169602Yes Lurcano is a non-runner on going grounds
Other non-runners are, in the same race, Supersonic Dave (temperature)
and in the 4:25 Orpsie Boy (bad scope)

Paul, are the details of why a particular horse is a non-runner published anywhere?

You have to feel for the horse. Poor Supersonic Dave surely could have expected the weather to be a bit nicer for him today and that the temperature would be up in the 80’s at least.
But no, it’s a miserable day and Dave isn’t running because it’s not warm enough for him
