took a nasty fall last evening and was taken to hospital with possible back injuries – no updates on any racing sites
July 11, 2007 at 11:07 #107303this is the latest:
MARK BRADBURNE has broken two bones in his back after falling at Uttoxeter on Tuesday evening.
The rider parted company with Danbury at the seventh fence in the Diabetes Uk Novices’ Handicap Chase and was taken by air ambulance to North Staffordshire Hospital.
Bradburne must now undergo a scan to enable the medics to diagnose the full extent of the injury.
His wife, Gee Bradburne, said: "The situation is he has broken his T6 and T7 vertebrae.
"We don’t know at this stage the extent of the damage until he has had a CT scan, and he is waiting for that at the moment.
"Until he has that we won’t know whether he will need stabilisation or whether he is stable enough as he is.
"The great thing is he is able to move all hislimbs which is the main thing in the long term."
I was there last night, has a friend had a horse in the last (which p155ed up!)
Poor sod, he really does not have much luck….
July 11, 2007 at 13:58 #107346Nasty, but if there’s one good thing the T6 and T7 are nowhere near as bad as T1 and 2 – good luck to him I hope all goes well and he’s back sooner rather than later.
July 11, 2007 at 15:01 #107364Lorna was just interviewed on Channel 4, sounding guardedly optimistic, but essentially reiterating Gee’s statement.
July 11, 2007 at 15:04 #107367Good to hear it’s not as bad as first thought. I think Mark is one of the more under-rated jocks out there, hope he’s back in the saddle sooner rather than later.
July 11, 2007 at 15:07 #107368Hear hear Friggo.
July 11, 2007 at 21:47 #107438An article from RP online (Gee was the source of the info) has said that after a scan, Mark has escaped serious spinal injury and will not require surgery.
July 11, 2007 at 22:13 #107444just a flesh wound then.
July 12, 2007 at 11:02 #107502Excellent news that Mr Bradburne’s condition is not as bad as feared. It did look a bit of a shocker on telly. Sad in a way as well that Danbury could not have given a better account of himself having looked handy in points most recently – I saw him do it impressively enough at Bonvilston about six weeks ago.

That was Ouh Jay, I presume? Not the only horse on the evening that was given too much rope, and having seen how easily she’d made all the last twice you have to wonder why nobody tried to take her on in the early stages of the race (especially as that ploy successfully demotivated her in a couple of chases last summer).
All the same, she’s proving a fair standard-bearer for Kevin M Predergast, who, like other new-ish trainer Kahlil Burke, spent his formative years falling off or plodding around out the back on Ted Caine’s horses….
