July 24, 2016 at 16:45 #1257172Correct.
Age date and location of last run?
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
July 24, 2016 at 23:03 #1257200Cartmel in the early 1960s, but that’s as specific as I can be!
July 24, 2016 at 23:04 #1257201Oh, and he was 22.
July 25, 2016 at 19:25 #1257479Very Good.
9th June 1962
An interesting Handicap Chase also involving a 13, 15 & 17-y-o.
They bred ’em tough in those days!
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
August 1, 2016 at 22:14 #1258639What is the connection between Northern Dancer, Desert Orchid, Suave Dancer & Makybe Diva.
August 2, 2016 at 05:54 #1258662i can think of one link but it’s not exclusive to them – they’ve all been immortalised in a statue at a racecourse. But then so have many others!
August 2, 2016 at 21:15 #1258710Very close, Ghost. I just need a bit more.
There is a plethora of horse statues around and about but the above group of four can be placed in a specific category alongside several others including, but not limited to, Red Rum, Generous, Persian Punch & Best Mate. Not all atatues in this category are to be found on a racecourse.
August 3, 2016 at 13:20 #1258751Is it that they are life-sized?
August 3, 2016 at 22:16 #1258790Size isn’t important, SNA.
It will assist matters if you can think of someone whose professional career in racing began in 1969 and lasted for 13 years.
August 3, 2016 at 23:42 #1258801Philip Blacker`s name used to come up a lot in this sphere
August 4, 2016 at 22:29 #1258883Correct, pilgarlic.
The eight previously named horses were all sculpted by Philip Blacker to stand in splendour on one racecourse or another. The former jockey is probably best remembered for his exploits aboard Pollardstown, the pair winning a few good hurdle races for Stan Mellor 30-40 years ago. He also partnered Royal Mail to victory in the 1980 Whitbread Gold Cup for the same trainer.
August 5, 2016 at 14:07 #1258917Thanks Seasider. I
d be struggling to come up with anything verifiable at present so Id like to throw the next question open.August 14, 2016 at 09:10 #1259753Okay, a riddle:
Placed in English classics in consecutive years in the 80s, two fillies went on to produce English Classic winners, separated by only a couple of years, the following decade.
Can you name all four?
August 15, 2016 at 19:36 #1259906Desirable (3rd, 1984 1000 Guineas) – Dam of Shadayid (1991 1000 Guineas winner)
Dubian (3rd, 1985 Oaks) – Dam of Sayyedati (1993 1000 Guineas winner)
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
August 21, 2016 at 11:26 #1260795Sorry espmadrid, I kept checking this thread to look for a reply but it’s only just shown up on my device for some reason!

August 27, 2016 at 23:36 #1261437Name the Horse
Started his career as a 3-y-o in a Newmarket Maiden over 1m 4f.
Trained by Bernard Van Cutsem.
Went on to win 2 races under Willie Carson.
Moved to Bob Turnell to start a NH career later the same year.....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
