I agree that Spencer is a great jockey.
From your comments, I suppose we should expect Maimoona ( R Hills) to lose and Topazes ( Spencer ) to win at Folkestone Thursday?
May 1, 2008 at 20:42 #161004Perhaps having the right horse in the right race is important.
Both men won on their short-priced favourite: Richard by four lengths and James by a neck.
Two good jockeys, imo.

May 2, 2008 at 08:32 #161041Wasn’t his ride on Boz at Great Leighs better than either than on Cesare or Sir Gerry. Interesting that he left Folkestone early and missed the ride on Nutkin so that he could take the 2 rides for Cumani. With Luca’s faith in Nicky Mackay ever diminishing, can we expect to see Spencer regularly teaming up with his old boss?

Didn’t Oscar Urbina do well in his place though?
May 2, 2008 at 10:12 #161057Best part about it Rory, was everyone watching the race could see turning in what was going to happen.
May 2, 2008 at 10:43 #161060Its funny how when he wins easily as Spencer did on Sir Gerry and on Cesare (both of whom I backed but both of whom merely slammed vastly inferior horses in the way they should), people call him great etc, but when he holds one up and doesn’t get up he is called all sorts. I’ve always been of the opinion that more indifferent rides lose races than great rides win them, but with jockeys you know what you get. Richard Hills is very good on front runners because he dictates pace well, but isn’t strong in a finish which means when its close he gets a lot of stick for losing.
