Not only am I the worlds greatest judge of horses Boz but I know people within 5 mins of meeting them and can assess a man through his writing. You dear boy are a good guy,you wouldn’t believe how many times I have been asked if you was actually me in one of my many guises, such is the similarity of our writing skills. You have lost confidence and you dont like the thought of folk reading your work when you cant put that little bit of magic in your posts.I can understand your predicament as everyone of us suffers from writers block shall we call it!
All you need is a couple of nice priced winners and bang its back,it will come and I for one have every faith in your ability. What is difficult about our game is maintaining some form of consistency and that can be influenced by outside activity, work, family, health, money all of these effect our confidence and I’ve been affected by all myself in my time. What I have learned over the years is experience is everything and I can honestly say I am a far more confident person in my 40’s than I was in my 20’s and thats because I’m no longer self concious and totally not bothered about being slagged off,you will agree with me oneday about that.Soldier on and look forward to things and remember TAPK always says….Confidence is King!
Get yourself to Newbury in May with us!March 3, 2014 at 22:54 #469886Great post Gord.

March 4, 2014 at 10:44 #469916Great post indeed. Thanks Gord, goes to show that not only are you a very good judge of a horse but a very good bloke to go with it.
March 10, 2014 at 15:17 #470635Right then, I guess it’s time to mark my territory once again! Conspicuous by my absence I may have been, but on the eve of the greatest four days of sporting action in any calendar year it’s certainly time to make my presence felt.
Very early start tomorrow but, let’s face it, it’s the one day of the year you’re more than happy to hear your alarm sounding and it still be pitch black outside. 5.45 I have my taxi booked to the train station – the adventure begins!
We’ll start our look through tomorrow with my day one banker. If you’d have spoken to me two months ago or more I probably would have given you
Champagne Fever
as my festival banker. After scratching the surface however and wrestling with my thoughts I have admittedly been swayed.
The record of Arkle winners in the following years QMCC is pretty immense. In fact 12 of the last 13 winners have gone on to at least place in it the following season, so it’s clear you need to find a proper Champion Chaser in the making, something I just can’t pin
Champagne Fever
as.
Rock On Ruby
, despite holding some top notch festival form, is simply too old and too inexperienced over the bigger obstacles for me to factor in.
Valdez’s
last run of just about running down the far inferior
Arnaud
last time out is just not good enough,
Grandouet
is just too soft and if
Dodging Bullets
is good enough to win an Arkle I’ll wash my face with my own sh*t (I’ll probably still smell better than Ginge through festival week though!).
This brings us to the big Gigginstown stamp
Trifolium
. Now here’s a horse you could quite easily see as a future Champion Chaser, were ‘
Sprinter’s
‘ health no better by next year. His Irish Arkle success took a while to sink in for me for whatever reason, probably because I was so busy kidding myself that Willie’s horse was a good thing. His third in the Supreme a couple of years back is decent festival form and so long as Bryan Cooper can keep his cool and keep one eye on Ruby I’d make him my bet of day one.
While we’re on the young lad I’ll be a happy man to see him wrap up a double with
Art Of Logistics
in the last. There’s every chance this fella’s better than a handicapper and will be suited by a sounder surface tomorrow. He’s opposing
Pendra
, who I’ve long been a fan of, but I’m not convinced that he’s suited to the track.
The Festival Handicap Chase has had my head spinning for days. While
Time For Rupert
is massively well treated on his old form, I’m not convinced he’s got the heart for a big scrap such as this tomorrow. I quite like two at bigger prices though, the first being last months big Kempton gamble
Tour Des Champs
. While French breds don’t usually rule in this, I can’t ignore him off his current mark. I was never convinced he’d be sharp enough for the BetBright last month and can see this playing more to his strengths. He ticks plenty of boxes and his current price looks fair. With him you just need to pray for a clear round as it’s been well documented that he does tend to whack a few.
The second is a bit more speculative and his odds reflect it – it’s
Ackertac
. Although Tim Vaughan has a lousy festival record I can’t help but think that if he were still with Twister he’d be a fair bit shorter given his sound course form. His second in last years festival in the novices’ handicap was another good example of this and it looks like this has been the plan all year. He has the trainer festival form and weight trend to overcome, but I don’t mind taking my chance at 33/1.
Finally we have a
very
speculative one to end the week on Friday. The old boy
Tataniano
has his entry in the Grand Annual off a lowly mark of 138. Hes been going in graded company all season an thus has no form to show for his season. In that way of speaking he has little to go off since 2011, where he p*ssed up in a handicap off a mark of 160. It’s fair to say he’s not the same animal and, without being harsh, he’s not trained by a certain Paul Nicholls anymore. I can’t help but think though that there’s a big run in him off this mark though and 50/1 looks tasty.
Good luck this week everybody, it’s good to be back
March 10, 2014 at 15:23 #470636Good luck Boz, enjoy the week, would I be correct in believing My Tent Or Yours can have a significant impact on this thread?

And yourself Tommy, shame you couldn’t make it down.
Significant-ish mate, I ended up having to lay off all my stakes on Betfair though which is a bit of a bummer
It was lack of funds rather than lack of confidence that prompted it although I’ve still got a fair bit on with Hills. I’ve half given up trying to chase a profit this time around but I’m not dwelling on it, just putting it down to experience. In a good place for the week ahead though and I’m absolutely buzzing
March 11, 2014 at 06:03 #470774The waiting is almost over. I’m sat at a train station shivering and clock-watching………and I couldn’t be more excited
March 11, 2014 at 09:47 #470786Good luck Boz,we’re all in this together Win,Lose,or Draw. Its always a battle and in an ideal world we kick off winning. That builds confidence, losing early like I lost on ‘My Tent’ last year tests your resolve but you have to keep the faith in your predictions and it can be turned around in an instant, when it does it all feels easier and horses start running for you, thats when you have to go in hard and push your luck then keep pushing.Ding dong round 1 fast approaches and the card looks great.
March 14, 2014 at 11:44 #471732What an absolute sickener to wake up to the news that my favourite horse in training
First Lieutenant
has been taken out of the blue riband event
It’s certainly taken some of the gloss off the day from a personal perspective. I’m not talking through my wallet as I just really wanted to see him take his chance on ground he would have thrived on. Today would probably have been his last chance as well in all probability. True shame but here’s hoping for a great day ahead anyway!March 19, 2014 at 13:20 #472532boz, the Haggas horse who gave Toormore a workout on debut is running at Lingfield on Saturday, I want odds against. Can you phone Skybet and get the heads up?
