Considering we’re supposedly in the midsts of a global downturn, I think I’d have sold this one !!!
Azeri Colt Unsold at $7.7M
Hip 127, the first foal out of 2002 Horse of the Year Azeri (Jade Hunter), a colt by fellow Horse of the Year A.P. Indy, was led out of the Keeneland sales pavilion on a bid of $7.7 million. The action was fast and furious as the tote steadily climbed up to and through the $7-million plateau. A bid at $7.2 million was answered by another at $7.5 million before the hammer dropped, but the athletic chestnut colt was led back to the Hill ‘n’ Dale consignment. It marks the most expensive buyback in Keeneland history. Champion Adjal held the previous record when he was bought back for $7.5 million at the 1985 Keeneland July sale.
September 8, 2008 at 22:20 #180113Apparently, neither Coolmore nor Sheikh Mo were the underbidders, so I assume it was Paulson v Paulson.
September 8, 2008 at 22:41 #180115I see a full brother to Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway x Helsinki) fetched only $25k.
September 9, 2008 at 01:41 #180135Must have walked out without a fourth leg?!
That is unique – I guess the O’Byrne/Ferguson factor would have made sure he landed $10 million, but maybe the horse wasn’t overly stunning?
On a side note, has Farda Amiga produced any foals?

Paulson Seeks Partner for Azeri Colt
Owner Michael Paulson said he bought back Azeri’s first yearling in the hopes of retaining a portion of the A.P. Indy colt to race. Paulson bought back the yearling for $7.7 million during the opening session of the Keeneland September yearling sale Sept. 8. It marked the most expensive RNA in Keeneland sale history. The colt was consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent.
Paulson, who raced Horse of the Year and three-time champion Azeri in the name of the Allen Paulson Living Trust, has strong emotional ties to Azeri, the last great horse bred by his late father.
"We picked the breeding, picked his name (Vellenzeri), were there at his birth, and have watched this yearling grow up to be an exceptional horse," Paulson said. "We’re working with some people who have expressed interest in him, and hopefully we can strike a deal here where we keep part of him, perhaps even in the next day or two.
"He’s exceptional. He’s never taken one step backwards since he was born. He vets absolutely perfect, and he has that Azeri walk–you have to almost trot to keep up with his walk. We know he’s going to be a real racehorse. Everybody who sees him thinks he’s exceptional."
Paulson did not wish to reveal where he set the reserve on the colt, but noted that his understanding was the last live bid was at $7.5 million.

Storm Cat — Winning SeasonHe’s no mug and/or he’s spending someone else’s money. Sorry without looking it up in the catalogue, I presume Regina Maria is the US bred one in this case?
September 10, 2008 at 09:53 #180287Yes, the Unbridled. I’d be severely doubting his judgement if it was the French one!
