On Sunday 3.30pm. Galway vs Armagh a novel pairing so huge enthusiasm and should be great spectacle, but no way it will ever emulate last week’s hurling final. Think Galway at evens
July 26, 2024 at 19:15 #1702750Unfortunately it is not being shown live on BBC2 but anyone with Sky should be able to watch the game via BBC Northern Ireland on channel 966.
I favour Galway to edge it as well. 11/4 to win by 1 to 3 points.
July 28, 2024 at 15:14 #1703091Stiff enough southerly wind likely to be blowing into the Hill 16 North terrace which should favour team that wins toss and may reduce points tally today
Galway 10/11 likely comfortable win
Armagh 11/10 likely narrow win
Draw 11/2I would have it!
So not the money printing exercise you would assume from David Jennings recommendationsArmagh are super fit and mobile while Galway have a more classical football look about them. Donegal may have made Galway look better than they are in Semi.
Armagh’s point scoring opportunities will be limited so they will need at least one goal, scrappy no doubt! Hard to imagine Galway putting in 70 mins without a goal.
So an odds-on 2 or more match goals is my gamble.
RTE PLAYER 3.30
July 28, 2024 at 18:00 #1703103Armagh just about deserved it; exciting but poor game. Rule changes desperately needed to disincentivise defensive football (it’s even worse at club level)
July 28, 2024 at 18:19 #1703105Agree game needs to be reinvented root and branch. Get rid of those daft “marks” for a start and increase halves to 40-45 mins. Redesign goalposts. GAA football is sustained by club/county loyalties rather than any compelling physical spectacle.
July 28, 2024 at 18:51 #1703110Well done to Armagh.
Agree with the criticism. Of the two games, hurling is by far the superior. I wouldn’t want to miss the hurling final but I can take or leave the football.
July 29, 2024 at 16:34 #1703167The midfield mark has been a success, encouraging high fielding but agree the forward mark largely irrelevant; there was only one during the final, which was missed. The obvious change, which is not in the proposals, is to reduce teams to 13-a_side. Not only would it allow more space and make packed defences more difficult, it would also give smaller counties and clubs a better chance; my club has 13 decent players, the last two spot’s are for a.n.other
August 4, 2024 at 14:33 #1703984Poor form from Irish Racing Post. Not even a couple of paragraphs on the Ladies final this afternoon

TG4 and Player 4.15 (Irish language)
RTE Radio 1 (English Conmentary)If that handy “basketball” type interplay through the centre practiced by Galway delivers an All Ireland title it may change the way game is played. Will be interesting to see how Kerry deal with it.
4/7 Kerry favouritism is justified however. Their all round physicality and expansive kicking game rather than any great finesse should see them home. The big stadium Croke Park backdrop may help ladies especially Kerry with their point-taking accuracy.
Kerry Win 4/7 2pts
Possible type result
Kerry 1-12
Galway 2-7* * *
Disappointing show from Galway. Looks like the big Croke Park pitch exposed their limitations. Tough ask for the ladies in an amateur game.
August 5, 2024 at 14:24 #1704060Delighted for Kerry, they’ve been knocking on the door for long enough. And what a result for Leitrim! Tyrone were 7-1 on.
I was at the ladies finals day some years ago and it really is magnificent occasion; 6 sets of enthusiastic supporters - AuthorPosts
