Yesterday I travelled to Kempton Park in the horsebox with Nigel Hawke and his charge Albert Park that I have a 5% share in. He made his handicap debut in the 4.55 ridden by Bryan Carver Here’s the day in 13.05 mins! #horseracing

April 23, 2024 at 15:54 #1691562Great stuff, Simon. Thanks for sharing and what a wonderful horse he is with a very decent pedigree. I hope you’ll pick up some decent prize-money with him.
Nice insight from Brian Carver after the race and I’m sure Nigel is shrewd enough to place him in the right races for a small touch.
Keep us updated, if you want to.
April 23, 2024 at 15:54 #1691563Thanks Simon, really enjoyed that.
It brought to life something I’ve previously posted on my interest in Long Distance Travellers. As you rightly say, this wasn’t one of the longer trips Nigel Hawke would make on a weekly basis when considering his isolated location (ditto Peter Bowen, Nicky Richards, Linda Perratt etc). We should never forget the effort, preparation, time and most importantly cost that goes into getting a horse on to a racecard.
Rather grimly it also got me thinking of a trainer who makes such a journey with a single horse, only to lose that horse during the race. That journey back with an empty box must be horrendous.
Best of luck to Albert Park for future races and keep your blogs/posts coming.

May 1, 2024 at 10:37 #1692386Thank you, the empty box thing is something I thought of too. It really is something else when you have a living breathing, kicking and bucking horse in the box. I can’t imagine how it must feel and never want to find out, even falling at the first or a late withdrawal must be gutting after all that work.
May 1, 2024 at 10:38 #1692387Thank you.
