Another day, another Gavin Cromwell winner on British soil. That’s not what I want to discuss about the race though. I’ve created the thread to talk about why numerous trainer’s were willing to potentially ruin promising horses on ‘Haydock in February’ ground. As is so often the case it gave the impression that a tractor would have struggled to get through it.
Alcedo, Bowenspark, Great Pepper, Isaac Des Obeaux and Mt Fugi Park all stayers in the making yet all pulled up before 3 out.
Personally I wouldn’t want my horses running in ground described as heavy at as it generally is at Haydock or Sandown. How Newbury was described the same last week is laughable. Night and day.

How far to they have to get before it counts towards a handicap mark? Presumably most of those will be starting off in novice handicap chases next season.
