There has to be a huge question mark over whether last years race was anywhere near as good as this years. Osana hasn’t done anything of note since finishing second in the Champion Hurdle, a race that might well have left it’s mark on him.
Al Eile is a very good horse round here but I think he’s going to find it much tougher and can’t see him winning again.
Catch Me has done nothing wrong but apparantly he has a stone to find and hasn’t got his favourite ground. It could be too much to ask to expect him to win.
Celestial Halo left me pretty much with some egg over my face as I thought no way could he beat Binocular even round Cheltenham. The massive improvemnt he showed when running there compared to here throws a big doubt over whether he can repeat that sort of form. However it is over a longer trip and if he is as tough as he seems he must go very close.
Someone mentioned Katchit might go for the World Hurdle next year. I would be dead against that but if Alan King thinks he can get that trip then this distance should be a walk in the park for him.
Katchit has proved he can win round here and I don’t buy into this he has been getting outpaced. Alan King has his horses in great form and Katchit oozes class when he is right. He ran a great race in the CH apart from the fact he hit a flat spot. Alan King had been struggling to get him right for Cheltenham and that could be the reason.
That aside I think he’s certain to be right in the thick of things today. This horse beat the current CH Punjabi twice without batting an eyelid he’s had a few problems but I think it’s crazy to write him off. It will take some animal to beat him today if he’s on song and I make him my bet of the meeting. I couldn’t belive Paddy Power went 14/1 and he’s still available at 12/1 I think he an absolute knocking EW bet.
If he gets to the front turning for home I can’t see anything catching him and he certainly won’t be out of the first three.
I wish someone would kick Dessie Hughes in the balls poor old Hardy Eustace surely has done enough this season. Why do they insist in running him in every top race when he is the first horse everyone puts a pen through?
Solwit is not a horse I am familiar with but they must think he’s good enough to do himslef justice. Hard to acess.
Jered ran a complete stinker in the Champion Hurdle but that could prove a plus here. Noele Meade is a great trainer and he’s not sending him back over here for the fun of it. He will love the ground and has AP aboard and 7/1 shot Fiveforthree din’t see the way he went when they met at Punchestown. Very big price at 10/1 and worth a saver.
Finally Blue Bajan: He was sweating like a jock’s armpit at Cheltenham and never had a chance in the Champion Hurdle. When Andy Turnell gets him right he is an awesome horse who could spring a surprise at any level.
This could be just a stepping stone before going for the Swinton Hurdle again but he did finish a good second to Pierre Lunair here last year. He’s a huge price and I could see him running a big race.Katchit for me.
April 4, 2009 at 15:22 #220249Fist I think you make a good point in your summary Alan Kings horses are flying they are having a great Aintree. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a huge run from Katchit.
April 4, 2009 at 18:58 #220287I thought that was a great run from Fiveforthree. He was very keen early on and his jumping was still a bit novicey. He got checked at a crucial stage but he was able to come back on the bridle and he still only managed to find one too good. I’d say he’ll go for the stayers at Punchestown next and he shouldn’t be inconvenienced by the step up in trip being related to Celestial Gold.
He should make a cracking chaser next year.

Well done Grassy, youve been preaching him long enough. Liked his bunch of owners to. Good down to Earth ordinary racing men.
April 7, 2009 at 00:28 #220679I’m taking a very positive view of the form of this race- Al Eile is very solid around here and was well outpaced. I reckon the first 2 are very decent and I’ve had a good cut at Cashman’s 25-1 about the winner for next year’s Champion.
