The O’Dearys don’t deserve a horse like Tiger Roll. This whole episode has left we extremely angry.

Can I just confirm, do any of you guys think Tiger Roll could’ve won the race yesterday?

No. He is at his best in fixed-brush hurdle type races, like X-Country events and the nonsense the National has become.

Not in a million years Jack, and I was the first to say hmf, if they want his mark dropped they need to run him over proper fences. But it is the attitude, the spite and bratty strop just taking the piss out of the horse and the race itself to prove a petty point. I suppose it is tough- because he is a snall horse lacking scope and also a good ground horse. Were he a mudlark he could run comfortably in the Betfair and the Cotswold and not be humiliated but drop his mark a few pounds. Not that horses care but it’s just the loudmouth “He has ZERO chance” tantrum in public that grates. If he had come down and broken his back at that fence what would they have said then? I know the risk is low, and he’s a clever horse who stayed upright then looked after himself….but still. The risk is there. Most owners and trainers respect that risk. Take for example Oliver Sherwood’s words after Many Clouds’ Cotswold. Of course to the horse itself it’s immaterial- Many Clouds is dead, Tiger Roll is alive so perhaps I have a pointless argument. Still, I wouldn’t mind if they just threw all of their equine toys out of the pram at Doncaster sales this year.

I do quite like some of Michael O’Learys interviews- the “Samcro not the second coming” one was a bit of welcome cold water and it was sporting of them to run Apples Jade in the champion hurdle even though she got well beaten too. That was kind of different.

I do not believe Tiger Roll could have won but I am not convinced he is 92 lengths inferior to Clan Des Obeaux either.

Quite agree. Tiger Roll is the best known horse around. Eddie O’Learys (latest) stupid comments, following by a Stewards Enquiry in to the running “effort”. Another horrendous PR excercise for Jumps racing. Have Gigginstown confirmed when they are sodding off to concentrate on their budget airline yet?

Let us hope it is soon, TTC. Yesterday was not good and even though I like Abacadabras and have defended him on this forum against his critics, I was disappointed he won yesterday. Not because I lost on him at Cheltenham and did not back him here but because I did not like seeing O’Leary win.

I know he can do what he likes with Tiger Roll but a dual National winner sort of becomes public property. O’Leary did racing and the public a disservice by taking the horse out of the National and then sending him over to run over a distance too short and on a track that would not suit the horse just to make a petulant point against the handicapper.

And the stewards clearly thought there was enough suspicious about the run to merit an investigation. There is no way the horse is almost 100 lengths inferior to Clan Des Obeaux.

I wish he would just sell up and get out of the game.

Last time he ran over standard fences he was PU. I also don’t think Native River is 44ls worse than Clan Des Obeaux but little has been said.

In my mind Tiger Roll was always going to get thrashed yesterday. So as far as I was concerned there was no need for an inquest. It was the wrong race for him and that is it.

Even the pre race headline in the Racing Post said “Grand National hero Tiger Roll has ‘no chance whatsoever’ of winning on Aintree return, says Eddie O’Leary”.

Fully agree with you, Cork. In my opinion the Stewards Enquiry should have been held prior to the race, as soon as he was a confirmed runner. The purpose of yesterday’s run has been mentioned numerous times in this thread.

I would hope to see him again over the banks at Punchestown later this month. However this chance has been diminished after his run in the Aintree Bowl.

I’ve no issue with Tiger Roll being run in a Grade 1 chase, but putting him in what was clearly not the optimal choice of race just to make some misguided point leaves a bitter taste. And the point about his handicap mark being “too high” has not been proved as the types of race he has achieved this in are vastly different to the task he was set on Thursday.

Tiger Roll is a wonderful horse whose achievements should be cherished, and who should have been given the chance to go down in history as a triple Grand National winner. Sadly I can’t help but think I’d have enjoyed his exploits more if the behaviour of his connections had been more sporting. Tiger Roll, you deserve better.

Watched this back a few times, and I’m happy to offer the opinion that Tiger Roll was a reasonably blatant non-trier in the Bowl. Don’t say that lightly.
