Cheers, a cracking little read. It’s easy to forget how talented the top trainers are with their attention to each individual horse and the tiniest details. Horses loving a mixture of music and chat on the radio too?!!

I was going to post a link to this myself, it’s the best thing I’ve seen written on APOB- real insight, especially about his father.

Can’t see certain Yorkshire trainers worrying about the music their charges listen to!

I’ve worked for a few trainers in the past, successful ones and not so successful ones but the one thing that put them all the same level was their ability to yell :? – I would have loved to have worked for someone as quiet and pleasant as O’Brien. :) no wonder he gets things done.

I had a fun experience when working for an aging blue-collar chap who had a few run-down boxes at Flemington.

They had put up some new rubber matting in the wash-down area and I had led a 2YO colt in, hooked him up … course, he was trying to back away and I begun hosing him down. Finished, went to get a cloth and returned to see him standing in a passageway, now not hooked up. The bit had broken off.

I’m leading him back to his box and *OOMPH!* A hand grasps the back of my neck and pulls me down to his height. Stinking breath, the trainer tells me off with every expletive known to man, and some new ones. Not to mention all the spray hitting my face.

    Good times.
