I would like to post a system that should make a steady profit over time.
1. Eight runner races only
2. Choose horse that is clear 3rd favourite in Daily Mirror betting forecast
3. Back each way
Selections for Saturday 24 April 04:
Ripon: 3.45 Senza Scrupoli 4.55 Exclusive Danielle
Haydock: 5.45 Make Us Flush 6.45 Free Wheelin
Market Rasen: 4.35 Mr Friday
Sunday 25 April 04:
Brighton 3.20 Meadaaf
Ludlow 3.10 Jericho III 4.20 Tictac
April 24, 2004 at 18:34 #53144Best of luck with this Tessa!
As a matter of interest what do you do when non-runner(s) make the race only two places – especially if that means the selection’s odds crumble to make an each way bet untennable?

April 25, 2004 at 14:58 #53149Nice winner Tessa @ 7/1
Don’t want to nitpcick but in 3-10 Jericho is 4th in forecast
April 25, 2004 at 19:03 #53152Thanks nall and RichNFord for your comments.
If the runners are reduced, I still back the selection each way at 1/4 odds.
I picked Jericho III because there was a 1st favourite, a two joint seconds, then a clear third Jericho III.
Saturday had 2 losers and 3 placed at 9/2, 8/1 and 10/1.
Sunday had a 7/1 winner (Meadaaf) and 2 losers
Assuming £10 each way on each selection, there would have been 8 selections: outlay £160 returns £179 – profit £19 or 1.9 points.
April 25, 2004 at 22:30 #53153Good luck with your system Tessa, very nice start.
Welcome to the forum.

Rich if you back the place on Betfair you will still get 3 places with a non runner, though I concede that the odds could be much reduced depending on the price of the withdrawal.

Erin Valley 3.10 Towcester
Golden Empire 4.20 Hamilton
Jack Fuller 4.40 Towcester
Fold Walk 6.50 Newcastle
April 26, 2004 at 14:07 #53159Interesting. These are the four selections you would get by using the on-line version of the Racing Post too.
April 26, 2004 at 14:57 #53160If i`m not mistaken the RP is owned by Mirror Group and the Daily Mirror use the RP betting forecasts.
April 27, 2004 at 17:34 #53162Monday saw one winner Golden Empire at 3/1, with two placed at 11/1 and 3/1 and one NR
So far: 11 selections, outlay £220, returns £283 ..profit 6.3 pts
One selection Tuesday 27th April:CARGO 6.25 Lingfield
April 27, 2004 at 18:04 #53164Very nice start tessa. Do you and this system go back a long way together? Or did you just think " I know what I could try…………" quite recently?
Again congrats on your start and continued good luck.
April 28, 2004 at 11:17 #53167Can anyone confirm if the Mirror forecast prices are always the same as in the RP? If so I should be able to backcheck this system to something like last July as I have all the RP cards with forecast prices on my PC.

April 29, 2004 at 09:11 #53173Mmm, now I understand the clear 3rd fav rule, in as much as you may have jt 1st or 2nd favs; but what do you do when you have a clear 1st fav, a clear 2nd fav and jt 3rd favs?
April 29, 2004 at 15:04 #53175Hi snowman
2. Choose horse that is clear 3rd favourite in Daily Mirror betting forecast
Would be a No Bet situation if joint 3rd favs
