Rayner isn’t even competent at being corrupt, compared to some of the Tory examples over the last 14 years. £40k, I can hear them saying, chickenfeed
September 5, 2025 at 16:59 #1739403Absolutely pathetic from Rayner.
As I said at the time of the election, Labour has to be whiter-than-white, given the majority rightwing media. Giving the rabid Tory (now Reform) press even the merest sniff of blood in the water was stupidity beyond belief.
She had to go.
September 5, 2025 at 17:33 #1739406On the bright side, she’s now got more time to attend to Chezza’s needs…
September 5, 2025 at 18:18 #1739408All the best Purwell. I have a friend in a similar situation as you. He has Stage 4 (advanced) Melanoma and has for about a year been on a clinical trial with new drugs, is doing well with the cancer more-or-less under control and, importantly, his quality of life is okay.
As for Angela Rayner: what a fool, though I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt that she was just remiss, not corrupt.
Furthermore, why is she buying a new ‘primary’ home in Hove rather than her constituency of Ashton-under-Lyne? Surely it is expected – if not mandatory – that an MP should be based in or near their seat and have a ‘secondary’ address near Westminster.
September 5, 2025 at 18:53 #1739409Off at a slight tangent: I spent this week in Sheffield, where I grew up, and made some observations which I think are apposite to the state of this country.
The city centre has an unhealthily large population of homeless/beggars/winos/druggies who collectively would once have been called ‘down-and-outs’: all were white English. There was also an abundance of delivery riders (Deliveroo, Just Eat etc) on their souped-up motorised bicycles dashing hither and thither: all appeared to be black North African/Middle-Eastern.
Now, just how many of the latter were asylum seekers working illegally or those who’ve been granted asylum did not really concern me; what did is the fact that these immigrants were hard at work earning a crust, whereas the lowest rung of the native population weren’t
So, are these immigrants ‘taking jobs’ from the English locals or are they just far more willing to work hard at menial low-paid work than the English are?
Probably an over-simplification but I found it quite an eye-opener, and I’m sure Sheffield is no different to other large cities
September 5, 2025 at 19:01 #1739410I have no interest in any of these people and at present I don’t bother voting. I don’t believe Angela Rayner deliberately set out to avoid paying this tax, she gave information to a third party information which was incorrect but at the time she thought it was correct. She has done herself no favours in the past for giving zero sympathy to others in a similar position and had no choice other than to resign. In the eyes of the HMRC she has avoided paying tax and they will not be interested in the whys and hows it was her responsibility to pay the correct amount.
The more I know the less I understand.
September 5, 2025 at 19:16 #1739413“she gave information to a third party information which was incorrect but at the time she thought it was correct.”
Even if it wasn’t deliberate (and I have my doubts), then it was at the very least incompetent.
The Tories and Reform can get away with blatant incompetence and/or dishonesty, but Labour can’t. As I intimated previously, everything has to be checked, checked again and checked a third time if you’re Labour.
September 6, 2025 at 07:11 #1739437Echo the sentiments regarding Purwell. I really hope the new treatment works for you and wish you luck every step of the way.
Laura Kunnesberg has Farage on her show on Sunday. I know Reform have just had their conference but why can’t they have the new Green Party leader Zack Polanski on, grilling him on the party’s policies and if there is any change in tact following his leadership win last week. BBC are just after viewers, tuning in to listen to Farage regurgitate their one and only policy – migration.
Regarding Angela Rayner, I’m sure it wasn’t deliberate but how silly of her not to take the correct advice and go to see a tax adviser. We would have been willing to help for a small(ish) fee

Not only does she lose her job she get’s stung for more tax plus most likely a penalty for late payment.
September 6, 2025 at 07:36 #1739441The BBC platforming Farage? Nah….
September 6, 2025 at 08:56 #1739446Back to soft treatment at the BBC after his absolute skewering in the US. It’s really not difficult as the Americans showed, he very quickly gets flustered and agitated as soon as the questioning isn’t going his way. It’s a damning indictment of our media that they are either unwilling or unable to do the same.
Obviously it’s not been reported much but at some point he essentially said that the US should threaten tarrifs if we don’t change our laws. Anyone wondering why most of us are against this dangerous individual may wish to start there. He’s also mentioned financial deregulation, as I have said before, he’s only interested in making things better for his rich mates. The rest of us will suffer. Immigration is just red meat for the proles.
Rayner simply very foolish and had to go. She has the means to take proper tax advice and get it checked, why not do so?
September 6, 2025 at 12:29 #1739477Why have people been so hard on Rayner & Labour?
Setting yourself up as ‘holier than thou’ as Rayner and Labour do means a certain pleasure is taken by others.
Schadenfreude ….. is becoming the popular term for expressing such things.
good luck to allSeptember 6, 2025 at 13:09 #1739492When my daughter was at university her two best friends were from families far richer than we were but we couldn’t understand why we seemed to pay more for things. After a while we realised that their parents used their accountants. Can’t help but feel that those of us from poorer backgrounds ( and Rayner seems to have a far worse start in life than many of us) no matter how well we have done academically remain green when it comes to tax. As for Rayner herself she must be a pretty amazing person to have achieved what she has. But the media have always been out to get her and she should have been more careful.Anyway, the BBC seem to be saying the country is in crisis, there needs to be an election and Farage is talking about when he’s PM,not if. everyone can see what Trump is doing in America but seem to be welcoming the thought of his mini me taking us in the same direction.God help us.
September 6, 2025 at 18:17 #1739516Farage saved stamp duty by having his wife pay for the house in Clacton… he shouldn’t be throwing any stones , the idiot even said Raynor hadnt paid council tac not stamp duty yesterday , listening to some of them ( Dorries especially ) at the conference was laughable
September 6, 2025 at 23:47 #1739527Not only did Farage give a talk to anti abortionists in America but they had an anti vacc’er giving a speech at the Reform conference. If they do get elected I dread to think what sort of country this will become.
September 7, 2025 at 00:07 #1739528It’ll go bankrupt …. After war on the streets
September 7, 2025 at 10:58 #1739553It’s ok everyone , while they put a anti vaccer on the stage to spout his nonsense they don’t actual endorse what he says ….. Anyone actually thinking of putting these idiots in government needs to have a word with themselves
September 7, 2025 at 16:15 #1739579Not only did Farage give a talk to anti abortionists in America
I assume all these people who want to keep women safe will be quite alarmed by this won’t they?
It’ll go bankrupt
That’s the plan. It has to be. Funny how ‘the markets’ react negatively to something Labour does and the media piles on. ‘The markets’ would s*** themselves Truss style at Reform’s plans but for some reason they’re a bit quiet about that.
