Hi All
I have just spent a lovely week in a cottage in Middleham (weather could have been better).
I thought that other members may find it of use if I shared my highlight of the week.
There is a racing tour advertised in the local shop which we went on, and it was absolutely brilliant.
We were particularly lucky as our guide was former trainer Ernie Weymes.
He shared all sorts of interesting experiences and views on our sport. He must have taken us into at least 8 yards to see the horses working etc., and he was great company. Great to hear first hand of his experiences of using top jocks such as Piggott and Eddery, and training for such luminaries as Lord Howard de Walden
Got to chat to the staff, even spent about quarter of an hour chatting to Ferdy Murphy (absolute gent and very informative)
I would heartily recommend it to anyone stopping in the area. If anyone wants the telephone number please let me knowOctober 2, 2010 at 12:30 #320457

Sound like you had a ball Coggy, you got me sitting here 4000 miles away feeling very jealous. Must be well chuffed having met Ferdy he’s as you say, one of the nicest guys in racing.
Was it an expensive holiday?
The reason I ask is I was visiting Brian Connorton at his home in Newmarket with a friend many years ago and he took us for a look round some big yards. The cream of the crop I should add. He also took us to a stud farm where I gave Sharpo’s ear a tug so I was well humbled by the company I was keeping that day.
I seem to remember that they ran tours round the big yard and stud farms charging Japanese customers thousamd of pounds a and that’s why I ask.

The stable tour was a bargain mate. £12.50 per person and went on for about 4 hours.
There were no strings attached e.g. trying to sell shares in horses.
It was an absolute treat to see the horses and give those in the boxes a pat.
The trainers and staff were really accommodating, and even though they were busy the all took time to speak and answer questions.
It was easily the best value racing experience that I have ever had, great stuff - AuthorPosts
