All of the initial talk of Sandown and the railway fences reminded me of when I attended the track to watch Sprinter Sacre in the Tingle Creek coming up to ten years ago. After the London Marathon, I joined the throng making its way to the railway station. Being a habitually quick walker, I soon found myself in a prominent position and was leading the pack with several furlongs to run. At that point, some gentleman with a conspicuously competitive streak loomed upsides and before long, we were at race walking pace. Shortly afterwards, we each broke into a trot, then a canter, and then a full blown gallop. All without looking at or acknowledging one another. Eventually we reached the station as a pair, a distance clear of the remainder, before finally giving each other the big up and seamlessly moving into a casual conversation about the day’s action. Neither of us blowing. I don’t know if it was mutual but I definitely had respect for the man’s fitness levels. Shades of Arkle v Flyingbolt…

Anyways, I am going to be at Hexham on the 4th of June.

I’m not sure “cosy” is quite the term I’d use – half of Surrey was there today!

I enjoyed it, though, as I always do.

Brilliant spoof from a guy who was evidently at Godstone yesterday.

    Extreme joviality.
    I was quite impressed by
    all the hustle and bustle
    and things going on,
    Boot fairs, beauty contests,
    and people doing things and
    generally enjoying ’emselves.
ELFS or is it ELVES ?

I’d always assumed point to point meetings (especially outside Ireland) would be quiet affairs, especially in Surrey as I’d never heard of there being any here myself.

Glad you’re having a good time attending all these meetings though Ian, I’m getting my horse racing spectating done vicariously through you at the minute lol.

Nothing “quiet” about these spring bank holiday meetings, Ben, they’re all rammed!

I am at Worcester, for the first time in 20 years.

Good performance by the Nicholls/McManus horse which hacked up in the first but it probably did not beat much.

It feels wrong to have a bumper in only the third race but I suppose they did not have time to shift the fences out of the way and put the hurdles in place as well.

I like Worcester (many don’t) and saw Voice Of Progress and Western Rose run there in the 1980s.

On a sunny day I think it’s pleasant sitting on the decking overlooking the River Severn.

I also think the Fixed Brush Hurdles are interesting.

I do think it’s a shame it’s Chase, Chase, Bumper, then Hurdles all the way every card, though.

Have a great day, CAS – three ex Pointers in the Conditional, one partnered by the talented Jack Andrews.
