Now, I don’t mind racing on the all weather, you’ll never find me calling it ‘dross’ (although Kempton’s AW card on Thursday sailed close to the wind) & as a betting medium it’s my favourite (jumping for show, AW for dough as I like to say)
BUT
Did no-one look at the schedule for this Monday (3/1/11) & think, ‘hang on, that’s a bit much’? Meetings at Southwell, Lingfield & Wolverhampton.
Not just from a racing point of view but a TV scheduling one too. To me at least, ATR is very difficult to watch when it’s raceraceraceracerace, ten minute gap to catch up,raceraceraceracerace.
And I’m not a Racing UK subscriber but it seems to me like they’re getting the thin end of the wedge at the moment.
Just a thought.
January 1, 2011 at 22:43 #334552ATR will have to squeeze in Hereford too
RUK will have minutes galore to chew the fat over Ayr
Given it’s possible, if not probable, that both NH cards fall to the weather shouldn’t the die-hard bank holiday punter be grateful three AW cards are there to keep them entertained?
Compare and contrast with Boxing Day

Well there is that to it I suppose!
More cold weather forecast?
January 2, 2011 at 01:15 #334565more racing the better for me! just like watching the racing.

Both Ayr and Hereford have announced inspections on Monday morning due to the threat of frost
If tomorrow were a bog standard winter Monday I’d largely agree that three afternoon AW meetings is excessive, but it isn’t, ’tis an infrequent bank holiday due to New Year’s Day falling on Saturday. So I hope all three tracks, the bookie fellas and the levy make the most of it

Ermm…. tomorrow’s Lingfield card isn’t an AW meeting?

Indeed it isn’t. That would explain that one then!
Ooops.

Ooops indeed. Well spotted RH
You landed me a sucker punch there Anthony
January 2, 2011 at 15:02 #334600I’m hoping to attend Lingfield tomorrow though a heavy frost tonight would cause problems.
Southwell is an additional fixture (not sure why this was added as the thaw has set in for days).
This is an unusual Bank Holiday given the timing of New Year and won’t be repeated for some time so I imagine Lingfield will be disappointed to lose the meeting.

Oh, they both have their feasts and famines, all largely determined by which tracks happen to bid for meetings on what days. There are that many summer Saturdays where the RUK / ATR balance of meetings covered will be 3:1 in the former’s favour at least.
There may be a broader question there as to whether courses can coordinate fixture-bidding to ensure a more even spread on either channel more of the time, but that might need to go in the tray marked "miracles take longer" for the time being.

January 3, 2011 at 17:07 #334675It was worse in the betting shops as they also showed racing from South Africa. Why do they need to show this garbage on a busy day with five British race meetings?

Goodness knows.
During some of the blank UK & Ireland day, ATR showed racing from Zimbabwe & I couldn’t help thinking just how deep that barrel must be, you think they’ve scraped the bottom of it but no! Here’s some more.

I’m amazed the two channels haven’t merged by now to be honest.
January 3, 2011 at 19:16 #334688Absolutely astonished that on the back of the forceast for this Monday the BHA saw fit to put on an extra all-weather card, but lacked the foresight to do so on Boxing Day.

I may stand corrected on this (usually do… ), but I
think
running South African racing feeds is all part of the sign-up for those bookies using Turf TV as a pictures supplier in part or whole. Certainly they hold the exclusive rights for showing it over here at present, anyway.
